With all the threads circuilating about ugrading speakers. I am going to do it. However I need some clear answers before I go and buy the speakers today, or tomorrow.

I have a 1986 Vert.

1) What size speakers will fit in the doors, without modification? I am no speaker guru, but I have heard about some members putting 4" in there, but my tape measure says the speaker is only 3" in diameter.

2) The guy at circuit city said I could get away with 6 1/2" in the rear, but not 6x9's. I know he means well but I dont really trust him. Can I put 6x9's in the rear of my vert without modification?

Guys, I hate to bring up another speaker thread, but I want to make only one trip to the store. I appreciate all the replies.

I trust you have surfed the radio and electronics threads.

I hear 6x9s will fit the rear and 4" can be made to fit the front, but have done neither; just read it.

You also know that you will have to run real wires in the place of the tiny ones that carry very small signals to the amplifier equipped Bose speakers?

Yes, I have read all the threads. However I would like to know what guage wire runs to the speakers now. Also, since I am no guru with speakers, which are the best brand. The circuit city guy told me infinity will be the clearest sounding speaker, but for more bass go with the polk. He recommended the polk in the rear and infinity in the front.

I took the front speaker out, but cant really see anything. Does the door panel have to come off the car.

The door panel doesn't have to come off the car to install front speakers. Sorry, I don't know what size speakers will fit. I believe the Bose system uses 2-ohm speakers, so I don't know what kind of compatibility problems you will have, it will be trial-and-error to see what works. As I recall, the rear Bose speakers are 6X9. I put Infinity speakers all the way around and they sound great.

The actual speakers are all the same, they look like 4" speakers. However the rear actual have holes for 6x9's to fit. I bought new infinity speakers, just to see how everything sounds. Does anyone know which wire is the speaker - and the speaker +

The negative lead to the speaker, should that be ground. Is the signal carried on the + wire.

if you connect them wrong they'll be out of phase. They will still work however. You would have to have supermans hearing to really notice the difference. Still it's best to keep + with + and - with -

If you have the delco-Blows system, you must run a new head unit, an amp, and new wires to the speakers. I am very happy with the Alpine V12 amp and infinty 6x9's rear + Polk 3.5's in the front. I had to make a 1/4" spacer to get the Polks to fit within the Bose door cabinets.

Well the speakers went in without a hitch. It sounds awesome. :_rock
