So after my intake and holly swap on my 72 BB I finally found an air cleaner setup that allows the hood to close.

the oem dual snorkle would clear the float bowls on the carbs so that was out from the get go.

I tried a k&n 1.25 inch drop base cleaner assembly with 3 inch filter.
verdict, not even close.

then i went to a 2.75 inch filtere
better but still not going to close.

a 2 inch filter allowed enough clearance but for a 454, all the cfm calculators i found said it wouldnt flow enough air.

i then tried the moroso low profile racing cleaner. it comes with a 3 inch filter so i didnt even bother with that one.

the 2.75 filter would allow the hood to close but the playdo was so thin you could see through it.

finally the moroso base with the 2.75 inch filter with the k&n top allows .30 inches of clearance at the highest point with the hood shut.

i found this website that says for my motor i need 660-840 cfm of airflow.
http://www.wallaceracing.com/intakecfm.php.

using the forumla i found to find the cfm of an air filter of H x D x 6 x 3.14 i should be flowing enough air with the 2.75 filter but to get more clearance i can go with the 2.5 inch k&N filter, however it drops my cfm down to 659 cfms which is right at the bottom of the requirements.

any opinions, suggestions, recommendations.
i am thinking that the .30 inches of clearance i have with the 2.75 will be good but id like to hear from people who know for sure.

I have the LT-1 reproduction air cleaner on my car.Corvette Central sells it for $109.95.I don't have the exact measurements but it gave me an inch more hood clearance than the generic drop base air cleaner that came on the car.I'm using it with a 3 inch filter but the top is very close to the vent tubes on my Holley carb so a shorter filter may not work.Might be worth a try.

You could also try a 2.5 inch filter with K&N's filter lid to gain the extra airflow you need.

that might be an idea. is that for a big block with a torker.

No,i have a small block with the stock flat hood.Just trying to give you some suggestions on how to fix your problem.
