I have a 1989 corvette that will not start due to my VATS being triggered?? I get the clicking noise and the lights blinking on and off. I have pulled my Vats and theft fuse and disconnected the battery and still get nothing when trying to start it. I even bought a new ignition key with no luck???

Could my battery be bad? My headlights do work. I am going crazy with this if anyone could help it would be appreciated.

Thanks.

If you get the clicking noise, I don't think it's the VATs. Check your battery connections, starter connections, grounds, could be a selonoid or relay.

Thanks Zum Zum......

The clicking noise is not from the starter but more from the dash in tune with the lights blinking on and off????

Vats

Haven't been through this with mine yet so I can't help so much. I have seen a few threads on this so you might want to try a search. Good luck and post what you figure out.

what triggered your VATS? that clicking under the dash sounds like some sort of relay. my son had a problem with a 97 accord. turned out all he had to do was (with the door shut), to lock and unlock the driver's door with the key.

I am not sure what triggered it? imust have armed it without knowing it and then it went off.

I have tried unlocking the door with no success.

Charge your battery & get a "load" check on your it.

I had that happen once and it was a loose battery connection, not the VATs.
I don't think your vats is the problem. If you don't touch the ignition the vats should reset itself in 4 or 5 minutes. I check with loose connections or a low charge on the battery.

If you don't have a battery tester or charger handy, try to jump start it.

I will check this out and let you know.

My 95 did the same thing. I would hit the switch and lights would go dim and I would here a clicking sound, sort of like a relay clicking but the engine wouldn't turn over. After checking the alternator and replacing the battery (did the same thing after new batter was installed), I finally checked the battery terminals and both were grown up inside the boots not on the head or threads. I pulled both of them free from the rubber boots and tossed them. Cleaned the inside of the boots with water and baking soda and slapped in two new terminals. All has been well since.

Unlock the door with the key.

If your horn doesn't work- The clicking is the horn relay. You can confirm this by holding the horn button down, the clicking should stop.

If VATS was interupting you, then you would near no clicking. The clicking that you are hearing is most likely the starter enable relay. It is located behind the center IP lights.

If I were you, I'd get under your car with a multimeter and a hammer. First check for 12v (Well... whatever the battery voltage happens to be at that time) at the starter solenoid with someone trying to crank the car. You may want to disconnect the pink wire from the distributor just to make sure the engine doesn't actually fire up for safety. If you do see 12v then whack the starter with hammer while cranking. Sometimes they get stuck.

If it is this, then I'd get a new starter before you get stuck somewhere.
