This past week my DIC displayed the ABS/Traction control service required message along with TCS code C 1214. The code would not clear. I took the car to the local Chevy dealer and was told the Body Control Module needed to be replaced. They said the cost of the part was $940.00 which I thougt was high so I declined the service. I have since found the part at GMpartsdirect.com for $165.80 but I have a couple of questions.
1. Do you think their diagnosis is correct?
2. It appears that replacing the BCM is pretty easy. Just some connectors and screws. Am I missing anything? Is it just a matter of swapping the boxes? I replaced a PCM on my truck and it had to have the VIN encoded to get rid of the check engine light.

Any help you can give is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi there,
C1214????? Are you sure that this is correct????
This code is for a problem inside the EBTCM or electric brake traction control module.
BCM is body control module.
While there is no way to confirm what is actually going on with your car, I would first suggest checking the 2 MAXIfuses in the underhood electrical center, ABSELEC and ABS.
If one of these are blown, they will cause the condition.
Please keep us posted, c4c5:hb

C4c5, that is what I thought was strange. I didn't know if the traction control was part of the BCM or not. What exactly does the BCM control? I will follow your advice and check the maxifuses but need to know if this is a visual check or is there some other procedure. Any other areas you can suggest I look at?
Thanks very much for the help as I am fairly new to Corvettes.

Hi there,
The BCM will control all accessories inside the vehicle, and lighting. It does not have anything to do with the ABS function, unless its talking to it to get mileage information for the DIC for your range that you have on your fuel tank.
Please keep us posted, c4c5

I checked the maxi fuses and all are ok. What is my next step? Thank you.

HI there,
Look at the front of the ABS module, which is in front of the power steering pump. There is a large connection, and a small wire which is separate from the entire wiring harness.
Make sure that this is connected and cannot be pulled apart.

I located the large connection, has a gray lock handle and appears to also have a zip tie securing it. I could not locate the wire which is separate from the harness. Does it actually attach to the module or somewhere else?

I've looked all around the EBTCM and there is only the large connector with a number of small wires (none separate) and a connector underneath with a coulple of wires.

Ok, quick question on the code. Does this code set every ignition cycle, as soon as you start the car?????
c4c5
For the past 10 days it appears when I start the car. One day it did not set, I drove the car about 90 miles (no code or lights), parked it overnight, then the next time I started the car it set again.

Hm, definately sounds like a module failure.
So, either the relay inside the module is not working, or the wiring going to it is not sound.
Either way, for accurate diagnosis, we are pretty much at the end of what we can do over the board here.
2002, what is your mileage?? If you are under 36k, you should still have factory warranty??
Allthebest, c4c5:hb

no warranty over 50,000 miles. Would the complete box that has the break lines attached need to be replaced?
