So I was kinda bored... and didn't feel like crawling around under the vette today all I could really do anyhow is clean the diff cover.. anyway.. with all the talk I have been hearing on the subject of NEON, which I think is cool if done tastefully... I read somewhere about using it behind the "gils" so I went out and got me some 10 inch blue neons and mounted them behind the wheel wells..

Works pretty nice I tried to take some pictures but they didn't come out too good.. but I'll post the best one i have.. you don't really see anything from the front, just a little glow looking from the sides and a little more from behind I think it's a pretty nice effect...

I think the whole having the vette down for a while is getting to me I want to be driving it.. but then again the weather is getting cold and all.. SO since I can't drive I guess I keep getting anxious and wanting to buy stuff for it.. hopefully the trans works and all and I should have a nice perf gain with the 3.07, the Vigilante I still have to buy and the shift kit.. should make a noticeable differance... Ah enough said..

That's pretty cool, I like the way it shines on the side of the car. Did you rig it to come on when you turn the head lights on? Where did you mount the light, on the wheel well, or on the body pannel?

I'm not done hooking up the wiring yet for it.. all I have to do is setup a switch to supply power to them.. not shure if I want it setup to go on with the head lights I think I am going to add a switch panel for any aux. things I install which I think I may put it inside the console under the lid somewhere..

As For mounting them this sounds cheasy but I think it was the best way so that I didnt hack anything up or have to make any brackets I mounted them using the supplied double sided sticky tape.. there is one on each side mounts to the fender almost in the corner where the plastic wheel well meets the fender.. I think it was a pretty cheap mod too.. I think the neon's were 20 bucks a peice or something there from pep boys LoL but I can;t wait till next spring once the car is all back togethe and finaly working it's going to look a little better... I'm hoping to have the windows tinted at some point next summer and to get a wing LOL not a ricer wing more of a spoiler kinda like the green wood one or something that would be cool.. of course I should be paying more towards my loan...

You didnt have any trouble getting the light to clear the battery on the drivers side? It's a pretty tight fit. Personally I'm not sure I trust an adhesive to hold the light there in a moving vehicle. I'd feel better if it was bolted to the wheel well. Another idea would be for a two part epoxy, but your pretty much screwed if you want to remove the light sometime down the road...

Congrats and welcome to the "other side" Love the neons and look great :) two giant thumbs up :upthumbs

I would bolt them you can always take them out and really the holes won't be noticable.

Now that is what I am talking about baby!

They look schweeeeeeeeet, and will make the car look like the nuclear reactor under the hood is reaching critical mass as you nail the throttle bringing that high stall converter on line, then dump the ponies to the new and improved rear diff gear, and leave everything in your dust.

Nice mod.

The adhesive when applied properly (clean mating surface, etc), will last a very long time. You would be surprised how many OEM applications on different cars are held in place with nothing more than sticky tape. The NEON tubes don't weigh much as all, so I don't imagine it would be a problem. Then, they can be yanked in a split second when you get tired of them.

I would pop a relay off the fog lamp mode and power them up from there. That way you could cruise the parking lots with the parking lights, fogs, and your neons glowing and no need to hack a switch in the interior.

I like the look! :upthumbs Reminds me of the warm glow of natural gas. Tastefully done!

very teastefully done.
Kind of reminds me of the propane heater in the garage though ;)
definitely a nice touch.

I do not like neon, but that looks really cool! Guess if I see your vette at night, i'll know for sure its you!

Looks good to me! Be careful how you wire those up, i don't know if it is a state or local thing, but in my hometown in PA it is illegal to use neons while driving, even the little neons on the tire stems are illegal. So I would recommend finding a way to wire them up so you can shut them off when neccesary.

Some neons I can't stand...

We have a crowd of young folk here in my area that are using neons on their cars, pinpoint lights and larger lights. I greatly dislike the blue and red colors anywhere on the front of the vehicle as they make me think of law enforcement before I think of anything else.

I had always thought that blue and red lights (besides brake lights) were reserved for law enforcement and fire department use only. Anyone know the laws, is it national or is only courtesy?

I know that one of our officers pulled over a young man with a stereo whose blue lights flashed with the bass. He made the young man remove the flashing blue lights from his vehicle. Why is it sold if it can't be used, or do the lights come with disclaimers?

Looks like a question I can ask my Captain and an excuse for a trip to the auto parts store!
;) I'm sure there's a few things I need....

Illeagle

I'm shure they are illeagle I've heard it alot.. the ones I bought say for interior but they sell the under car ones too they look basically the same maybe the under car ones are sealed better from the elements..

As for how I hook it up.. I want an aux switch which I'll mount in the center console (inside) under the door.. because I'm planning on using it really only at shows and hang outs and such not to drive around with everynight..

It is illegal to have red lights on the front of your car (AKA Knight Rider)

In most states though, it is legal to have indirect neons... this is why on most cars with neons you never see the actual bulb. As long as it is only casting a glow, it is ok.

in my state of maryland it is ILLEGAL to run neon's BUT it's not illegal to run them in a car show and such just not riding on the streets with them on. don't matter if they are red green or blue and anyother color of neon. some guys have the blinking headlights that flash blue like heidi said as long as they are in a parking lot and parked there is no problem but if you were driving down the road using them and a police officer seen it you'd most likely would be getting a ticket for impersonating a local or state government car.

BTW,

i think it looks cool! sorta looks like the afterburners coming on in a FA/18 super hornet :D
