Hi, am getting close to needing tires for my 1961. I want radials and not sure the ideal size. I have conventional driving in mind-no road rallys, etc. I would think that a 75 profile tire would look better, maybe 225-75 R 15 but would like to know the experience of others. I would prefer an 'American' sounding brand, even if made out of the country--don't know if Goodyears or Goodrich were OE or not. I really don't want Toyos or other oriental sounding names, though this may be silly on my part. I think I read that 205 x65 is the conversion from the original size, but I don't know this or if a wider tire would be better. We have kept the suspension stock. please share you opinions! Harland

The correct conversion-size radial from a 6.70-15 is a 205/75-15; that's what I used on my '57. Note that they won't fit in your spare tire well - I used a repro 6.70-15 as my spare. :)

John, Which brand of tires do you recommend? I'm thinking of going with a set of Diamondbacks.

thanks for that info. I had thought 215 would be better, but I am glad for the clarification. thanks, Harland

Diamond Backs - definitely, if you want radials with a "custom" sidewall treatment. Otherwise, Goodyear, Firestone, and Michelin have 205/75-15 radials. I'd avoid Coker radials.

I know guys that run 215/70 also without clearance problems on 6" wheels. I once tried to bolt on a 225/70 on the rear that I had laying around that was mounted on a 8" rally wheel. It was a definate no go.

Hi, thanks. I plan to use mid year rally rims which are 6 inches wide, I believe. Not sure which profile---70 or 75 --looks better. I will have to do some studying. I am sure it isn't a huge issue, however. regards, Harland
