hello: On a 64 327/365 w/o power steering, what is the purpose of the extra belt and idler pulley that is mounted where the p/s pump would normally mount ? Curious !
Thank you

What else does the belt turn? I think it goes around the WP pulley, crank pulley and the idler pulley. If that is so, it is the only way to take the slack out of the belt. I suspect the pulley arrangement is not stock or something has been removed that required the idler pulley arrangement be installed. Maybe you could post a pic.

it is factory item in case you throw of the long belt racing. the bearing used is a SBC waper pump bearing with one end of the shaft cut off.

Here is a picture of what I believe Robert64 is referring to: This is a pricture of a 1963 340HP.

Like the motorman says... it is a redundant belt for the water pump. The SHP high RPM motors had them.

Thank you all. The pic posted by Ray is what I have and as pointed out the belt is only backup if the long belt fails. Thanks again. This was my first post after lurking in the reeds for a while. Great forum and a lot of good info.
