OK so Saddle tan isn't my favorite color and my new 63 split window is just that. So is the interior. What would it do to the value if I had it taken down and repainted Say WHITE or RED - better yet: PLEASE give feedback as to a good matching color to the Saddle tan interior.
Unless it will destroy the Value for collectors - as this is a matching numbers car.
Thanks for the input in Advance

I would say if you plan on keeping the car paint it whatever color you wish.. You see lots of white w/ red int but not to many white with tan. If you decide to paint it paint it what you like... It costs so much to paint just make sure you like it. To be honest so what if it's not the paint color that came on the car... Dave..

Yes it will destroy the value, if the matching everything was what interested you in the car it will do the same for the next owner if you are going to sell, the saddle is a different color more rich, less sporty, my first piece of advise is don't change if you are worried about the value and if your not its your car, change it, my other thought is I believe you just bought this car? If so you probably bought the wrong car.

Any Idea what exterior colors were offered with Tan interior

Looking to see if the White or the Riverside red was offered with the Saddel Tan interior in 1963???

Thanks

Why??????????????????????

Hi

If the car is in real good condition that is an 85 point car or better, you will destroy the value completely.

If it's a 70 point car and down it doesn't matter what you do!

re: color for 63s

I have read in a couple books that not having the original color from the trim plate will lower the value of the car by the same amount as a new paint job would cost. However, as others have stated, it's your car and you can paint it whatever color you want.

According to my NCRS Pocket Guide, all of the exterior colors except for Silver Blue (code 912) were available with the saddle tan interior.

Specifically, that leaves:
Tuxedo Black (900)
Daytona Blue (916)
Riverside Red (923)
Saddle Tan (932)
Ermine White (936)
Sebring Silver (941)

I have the opposite problem that you have - my 63 Roadster has a saddle tan interior and the trim plate shows Daytona Blue (916), but it was painted an incorrect color by the previous owner. I'll be happier when I can get it repainted to the original color again.

I'm partial to the Daytona Blue and the saddle tan combination, but I'd bet the Riverside Red and saddle tan would look good also.

hope that helps

Anything you do to a "matching numbers" car will detract from the value. Changing the color? Figure the cost for you to paint it....let's say 5K. Then when you sell it, figure the cost to the new owner to "change it back"....another 5K. (he'll want a discount because of the incorrect color) There's a 10K loss for you.

Any add-on's...like 65 style side pipes...will detract from the value. Sounds like you bought the wrong car for you. :) Chuck

Original

I have to agree with both opinions I've encountered in this thread.

#1
It is your vette, do what you want to it.

#2
But I feel there are so few numbers matching vettes of the first two generations that I think it would be a shame to cause it to lose its' historical significance.
This is only my personal opinion.

If you don't mind taking the big $ hit for changing the color go ahead and do it, otherwise, you may wish to sell this one and look for a non numbers matching '63 split to make it the vette you've always wanted.
However, if you do re-paint this one to a color more pleasing to you...choose your painter wisely and expect to pay well for a job well done.

Color Change

Let's take a different point of view. If I came upon a double brown SWC I would'nt buy it. But if it was a more pleasing color combination to me and had a fresh paint job that would be an incentive to buy no matter what the plate said.

I admire the NCRS folks for the work they do in preserving our passion, but how many do we need? Who knows, maybe the orginal ower would have ordered white over red if he had a chance.

Above all get a good paint job and buy best quality interior.

saddle/saddle

I used to own a saddle/saddle FI coupe and when I first bought the car it was not my first choice. After a few years I decided to sell the car and took it to Bloomington and parked it on the for sale lot and people where going nuts over the color and I sold the car right away and could have sold it several times that weekend,in fact are you interested in selling?Let me know first

Give me your email and if I ever do decide I'll give you first look. Thanks for the encouragment

My '64 is Ermine white with the saddle tan interior. I really like the combo. If you decide to change the exterior color, I recommend the white. I have the knock off wheels and blackwall 205/70-15 tires and, IMHO, it looks GOOD.

If you would like a photo of my car, email me.

Having had a little experiance with this sort of thing I would say you would be better off selling it and use the money to find the color combo car you want. they are out there you just need to look. Since its a numbers matching car best off to leave it that way. Just my 2 cents worth
