Help! If there are so many '84's, why can't I find parts?

Today wasn't a great day for my 'vette...I lost 2 of the three smog pump pulley bolts and what a noise that was! Good thing I made it home before I lost everything. The bad news is I busted part of the A.I.R. diverter valve in the process. I've looked on Ebay and a few other sites for a diverter valve or parts of one to no avail.

Anyone have an idea as to where I might be able to find one and the related vacuum connections for it?

Check out fparts - they got their website up and running finally, so we don't have to go through ePray... ;)

Thanks guys for the leads....

Contemporary didn't answer the phone (Bristol, PA must have been hammered pretty hard by Sandy) and vette2vette turned up nothing, but I did find one in Mississippi for $75.00, which I thought was reasonable. I'm ordering it in the morning.

I had 2 ways to go; drill out the bad bolt and get 2 more, or buy a new smog pump. If the pulley and pump vibrated those bolts out, I'm guessing that the smog pump went south, so I'm ordering the smog pump tomorrow so I can put it in on Friday and have it somewhat running by the weekend. :happyanim:

While you have it apart ...

... inspect all the mounting brackets, especially the one holding the power steering pump.

My previous '84 had a lot of problems similar to yours and I spent months chasing leaks and vibrations. The final fix was a new power steering bracket. The old one had cracked and its flexing caused the vibrations, which eventually damaged other components on the serpentine pulleys. The new bracket had large ribs added to the casting which reinforced the area where the old one had cracked.

Check that out before you have to tear it down again to replace it.

Well I thought Monday was bad.....

Got the pump out after work today and went to pick up the smog pump at the local Autozone I ordered this afternoon and while I was there, I thought to install new bolts, so I tried to find the bolt size and check it against the new pump. Well lo and behold, when the cute clerk opened the box........
the reman was another core! ;LOL

I was in shock and it wasn't their fault; the hub sent it to them, so what could anyone say? They tried their best to find another one for me as it was too late to get another next day....the soonest would be Monday.

@Low drag - High speed, I did check below and around...The bottom bracket was loose, but the steering pump bracket checked out alright. The wiring and split looms are all looking pretty crispy, so I'll be working on that instead .

Man I'm gona miss my ritual Sunday morning cruise this week and the worst part is, I can't put it back together until next weekend when I'm off again.:mad

I re-ordered the pump from O'Rielys this morning...they're ordering an '84 and an '85 to make sure it's the right one. Looking at their pictures, there doesn't seem to be any difference.

Does anyone know if the difference in part numbers has to do with flow because there is no visual difference between the two years.
