Ignition key lock problem

Hi folks,

I'm new to the forum and just bought a 1972 Corvette convertible that was abused. I've owned two other Corvettes but they were both new so this is all new to me.

I'm trying to replace the ignition key lock and got the steering wheel and other parts out of the way but the lock itself will not release. I'm following the instructions in the service manual and tried for several hours with several different small tools and screwdrivers and rotated the key in all the different positions but it will not release.

Any ideas would be appreciated?

Welcome to Corvette Action Center and Congratulations

Do not have a clue about your problem but did want to welcome you aboard I have looked for a number of years for a 1972 Corvette and they are not that easy to find. I either found one that was really rough, too rough of a project for me anyway and ones that were really nice and cost more than my budget would allow. Is this one for sale?
