I am curious as to what happens when the ignition modules in the L98 engines start to fail. I just replace the starter due slow turn over when starting and it still has the same problem, but now I get a #42 service engine soon light which is for the module. If anyone has any info on this please let me know. Thanks

You never said if you replaced the ignition module?

I sold after market auto-parts for many years. Alot of the rebuilt stuff out there is junk. If you still have the slow start condition, load test your battery, if Ok then take the rebuilt starter back and get a new one (different brand).

I have seen way too many re-built starters and alternators fail right out of the box. Just be thankful it wasn't a clutch or pressure plate!

I don't think they "start" to fail, but when they do fail, you're dead in the water.

No, I have not replaced the module yet. Also the starter seems to work fine because I don't get the slow turn over every time. What else could be giving me the #42 service engine soon light?

I had the same problem. Was a pretty simple fix. One part that was going bad was the cable to the ignition module. The little molded part was falling apart. This was around $20 from on of the Vette supply places. The other thing I replaced was the 7pin ignition module. I stress & pin because I had ordered two on from Jegs and one from Summitt .... both supposedely for Vettes. One was a four pin and one was a five. Both were returned and I finally got the correct module from Jegs. Its actually a Accell part but works fine. Of course the module ran about $50. I think the GM dealer had the OEM part for $25.

I never had a problem with the slow turn over mine would turn over fine but actually firing and staying running was something else.
