I'm trying to set up some new wires for my ignition swith on top of the steering column and i cant find the wiring diagram for those wires in my shop manual..... theres so many going to that little swith and id liek to see what goes where..... i really dont want to have to test each individual wire and im looking for some quick help with this! i know you guys can come through!!!!

I still think you should test them one by one:

Reason:

Because you no doubt are not the original owner. There is no telling what may have been hacked, spliced, or changed over the years.

The truth is that the column ignition harness is pretty basic on all GM cars from that era, with the exception of any factory anti theft that may be tied into that....which I doubt you will even have to worry about.

Now, are you talking about the pure ignition/start switch, or the blinker/horn switch?

If it is the pure starter switch, all you really have is power in, then power out to the fuse panel, and to the starter solenoid.

thats kind of what ive been trying........ thers alot of wires on the switch itself..... about 7. the only thing that others me is that in my shop manual i found a diagram that is more confusing than helpful... in the "start" position, not only do the accessory wires disconnect(to have all power divert to the starter itself) there is a set of grounds that connect? what is that about? and what do they do? do i NEED them to connect during the motor start?
