I have my 88 beauty in the tow yard. Big rainpour this morning in Corpus Christi, coming back home on the highway at 6:00a.m. drove right in and got water in the door and into my carpet. The car stalled and I pushed it up to high ground, about 45 minutes later, I cranked it, it turned, but I have something like a tap noise:confused . So I turned it off, called the Insurance and told them that since I have full coverage, I was going to have it towed and to have an appraiser look at it.

Tomorrow, if the Insurance guy wants to get smart, what should I be requesting...I would like for the motor to get a good look over, grease all the understuff and bearing, the carpet replaced, I know there is alot of electric stuff, can someone tell me, what to expect and what should I demand..

I want to thank all of you for taking the time to read this. I have two other vans, but this is my daily driver, I guess I will start paying closer attention to the Weather channel..:beer

Carlos,
As far as I know water can do a lot of bad stuff to a car; any car... And Corvette is even more prone to damages since designers do not build these cars with fool proof solutions - this is mostly due to saving weight and increasing performance. If I were in your shoes I would consult with an authorised GM dealer to tell you what to ask for. It may take you forever to figure this from the forums.
Hope this helps.

Given the location of the air intake and how high the water was, you most likely got a big gulp of water into one or more cylinders. Water does not compress. It bends connecting rods and other maladies if there is enough in a cylinder.

If I am correct, and I may possibly be, it will be interesting to see if your insurance will cover water related internal engine damage.

Henceforth, remember, these cars were not designed for fording high water.

Best of luck,
