I was wondering what the two things were that are sticking out of the gooseneck on my 81. I've put a new intake manifold on, and have switched to headers, the carb is a holly 650 cfm, so the computer isn't hooked up to it. Do I need those two things sticking off of the gooseneck? also one more question, there is a sensor of some sort that screws into the manifold, it's kind of beaten up and I would like to get a new one, but have no idea what it is. I can take pictures of this stuff if you need them just let me know.

THanks for the help!

Chris,
by gooseneck i am assuming you talking about the thermostat housing. the things sticking out of it are temp controlled vaccum valves. they are for emissions stuff, and already by-passed by the sounds of it. the other sensor is most likely a water temp sensor for the computor. some pictures will be helpfull in 100% varification of the items, Brian

Chris,

This is an emissions device . Not sure of its function...but it appears that it allows vaccuum to be passed thru the device upon reaching a certain temperature. If no one else knows of its specific name...maybe you can look it up on a Service Manual for your year.

TVS = Thermal Vacuum Switch; opens and closes a vacuum circuit based on engine temperature.

The first one (in the thermostat housing), at least on my '79, controls the heat riser actuator.

The second looks like a temp sender. Possibly something that your computer uses? I'd check the wiring diagram.
