I have a 69 and i'm trying to replace the radio bezel. There is what looks like a silanoid or condenser with a single wire and a thin flat connector.Does anyone know where this goes??? Sorry on the back of the gauge cluster

Purchase the '69 assembly instruction manual (AIM). If the condenser is supposed to be there, the AIM will show it and list the old original part number for it. AIM will also have diagrams of the cluster assembly and how it installs.

I have the "AIM"s book you cant see from the drawing and it dosnt really talk about it.. Thanks anyway..I did see an old posting from a guy with the same prob but the responce was off subject..Someone out there must of had apart the gauge cluster???

69Wood,

I wonder if it's not something to do with radio noise suppression like the capacitor(s) on my '59 that mount at several locations in wiring harness (generator, coil, batt guage, etc...).

I might be taking my center gauge console on my '71 apart later this week and if I find anything I'll let you know.

I looked in the Corvette Central catlogue and didn't see anything like it though.

I took apart my '73 and replaced the bezel and radio, don't know what differences there are to the '69. What is the wire coming from?

Its small like a condenser, something for the noise on the radio makes sense, its right below the connection for the oil pressure gaugeView attachment 22593

I don't reconize that. Where does the other end of the wire go? If it goes to a metal piece with fins, maybe it's part of the heat sink for the radio. It would also have connected to the speaker wires. Mine was mostly missing since the radio had previously been replaced.

Thats the problem.. It has a wire about 6" long with a thin flat connector, and thats it..No second wire and the thickness of the connector leads me to beleive that it probably pigy backs in one of the other 2 or 3 prong connectors..

Check the radio option section in the AIM. Only the radio cars got the noise suppressing capacitors. Radio section will show the installation of the capacitors.

If memory serves, there were capacitors on the coil and blower motor. There may have been others.

My '68 has the optional radio, but I can't recall whether the capacitor in the pick is on the back of the cluster. It looks familiar, but I can't honestly say it's on my car.
