Installing rear "CORVETTE" emblem

Hey folks, for my first post I'm asking for help.

I recently purchased a 79' with all new emblems in GM boxes. The cross flags were no brainers, however the rear CORVETTE emblem came with a u channel and rubber nuts. I have an idea how this would work but I can't figure out how to make it work, I can't even get behing the plate with my hands. Please excuse the ignorance this is my first Vette. Any help is welcomed and appreciated.

I replaced my rear emblem on my 1981, so I think yours would be the same. You have to reach up behind the bumper to get to the mounting location. You should be able to reach it while lying on the ground. The long metal plate goes on the inside of the bumper, under the screws, to give rigidity I think. It is not easy to work with the emblem in one hand and the plate and screws in the other, but be patient and you'll get it. Of course, this all assumes that your emblem mounts the same as an 81.

I replaced the rear bumper emblem on my '75 recently (or, should I say, I installed a new one after my old one was vandalized). I do not have an original '75 bumper, I have a '76L bumper/logo. Mine is almost certainly like the one you needed to install (or may have done already by now). On my car, there was a triangular aluminum box-like support sitting on top of the bumper cross member right smack in the middle, obstructing putting the u-channel & speed nuts on the posts for the bumper emblem. It also had the tail light wiring harness running across the top of it. I had to remove that, but once I did it wasn't toooo hard to get the emblem mounted. Just got a bunch of crud in my eyes at first, until I put on some safety glasses!

That's exactly what I saw when I tried to reach up. Thanks for the info and it looks like I have to remove that plate. Forget mowing the lawn I got a new weekend project.
