Time to put the intake back onto my '81 engine and since it has been 1.5 years, I have long forgotten where a couple of things go.
1. The engine support plates or brackets. I have one with a single bolt hole and one with two bolt holes. On which side are they supposed to go? (Left side being driver's side).

2. Which intake bolt hole takes the stud or double bolt? I think it goes in the right front hole, but not sure. And what bracket goes to it wherever it goes?

Thanks,
Lanny

The bracket with two bolt holes goes on the drivers side front corner. The single bolt bracket goes on the passenger side rear corner.

I believe the stud goes on the passenger side, 3rd bolt from the front. The support bracket for the AC goes on top of the stud.

I've got tons of pictures, if you need them. Also, look at my website @ http://gedmeyer.l81vetteregistry.com . In the projects section, I've got a lot of tear down and assembly photos of my L81.

gedmeyer,

Thanks for the response. I also went to your web page, but when I clicked on a thumbnail all I got was an error and a blank picture. Something must be wrong; tried another person's computer and had same results.

Compressor support bracket goes on 3rd intake bolt, passenger's side......ah...what compressor support?? I don't have no such support....at least that I can remember.....wonder if its in that one box....waaay in the back of the garage...????

Thanks,

The A/C compressor. Do you have a/c?

You might need to hold Control down on your keyboard when clicking the thumbnails. The popup blocker might be stopping them.

gedmeyer,

Yes I have A/C...gotto go find that support bracket.

And I was able to open your web page pictures by clicking on the thumbnail a second time....strange.

Did you stay with the stock intake? I am trying to decide whether to get mine bead blasted, then powder-coated or just get a new aftermarket one....price difference is small.

I saw from your pictures that you mated the trans and engine in the car. Would you do it that way again? Any problems, lessons learned? I was planning on doing it the same way.

Thanks for the help.

Yes, I kept the stock intake manifold. I had it bead blasted and then painted it. It didn't cost much to get it bead blasted and I painted it myself (still looks good after 1.5 yrs). I wouldn't bother powder coating. Get a new one instead for the same money (as long as you aren't worried about originality). Just make sure whatever you buy, fits under the hood.

Leaving the trans in the car was not a problem. It took a little "wiggling" to get everything to mate but i didn't have a problem hooking the two back together. Although, I have a 4spd manual (not sure if it makes a diff or not). The one problem I did have wasa getting the driver's side motor mount to line up with the frame holes. I used urethan bushings, so it was just a matter of getting the urethane to compress a little.

The only thing that would have made life easier was to install my headers before I put the engine in. I put the hooker side pipes on this year and it was a pain in the butt getting the headers up in there.

Make sure everything in the engine bay is clean before you put the motor back in. It's much easier to do cleaning and other detail or touch up work, with the motor out.

Get that thing running! Goodluck

I know its a little late now but next time take a digital picture before hand and you can use as a guide.;)
