I am assembling my 86 L98 w/cast iron heads. The gasket set has two sets of intake manifold gaskets. One has the restricted water passages in the rear and one doesn't. Which one should I use?

does yours have the bleed hose coming from the back of the intake on the pasanger side ? if so I would think you need the open ones.

After I think about this, I don't think most small block intakes have a passage across the back. Some just have the bleed hose on one side.So as far as for flow across the intake you don't have any.I will look in my 90 manual in case it has some info there. If I find anything I will get back to you.

The manifold does have a coolant passage there. The gasket with restriction does not completely block the flow of coolant. I has about a 3/16 hole in it. My FSM doesn't show it.

OK a quote from my 1990 manual

1. Gasket on cylinder heads. Coolant passage restrictors in gaskets to be positioned at rear of the engine. Bend gasket tab flush with front face of cylinder head.

Keep in mind the 90 is alum. heads.

hope that helps.

I found this in the intake install or connect section.

Eureka!!

Finally found it in my manual. It uses the blocked openings.

Thanks for your help!
