I have a 72 Vette that needs a new interior. It has the standard vinyl interior. I want to replace the whole interior myself but I have heard that taking the dash apart is quote "A VERY BIG MISTAKE UNLESS YOU'RE A PRO!". Are there any good tips and tricks to tackling a complete interior replacement dash, console and all?

unless you really have too don't do it . I did it and it was a Pain in the Ass !!!!!! it was worth it but it cost because of the broken parts that happpend upon reassembly.

I had the whole thing out two Winters ago. I remember having nightmares about ever getting it back together as there are lots of little pieces and I didn't follow the advice I am giving you. In retrospect it wasn't that bad.

Make sure you have the AIM, make diagrams and digital pictures. Use sandwich bags for the screws and parts that go together and label the bags with a black marker.

And you have to be careful with those old dash pieces, particularly the dash pad and the lower driver's side. They are old and brittle and will break as you apply pressure on them to gently force them out.

While you have the dash out, buy some Reflectix insulation from Lowe's, it is thin, works well and is easy to apply, and some 3M carpet adhesive and insulate all of the firewall you can reach. This will pay benefits in the future.
