Ok so I am redoing the entire interior and I pulled the shifter plate, gauge cluster, etc and stripped, cleaned and painted them with some flat black, but then I covered them with Acrylic Enamel for protection. Now they look like they have a perm-a-gloss on them, like I just cleaned them with armorall or something. Looks ok, but the problem is that compared to the other new parts that I have purchased they are much more glossy. Does this gloss wear off over time or should I spray the other parts with the same Acrylic Enamel? Or is there a paint duller?

I did the same thing to mine last year and ended up stripping the paint off and repainting with Krylon Semi-Flat paint for the same reason, I didn't like the shine either. You might try to overcoat it with some Clear Flat finish that Krylon makes, it might tone it down a little.

Check the compatability of the two paints first on a test piece before you overspray the clear to make sure the clear doesn't attack the Acrylic you applied.

Ahh dude don't tell me that! Those things were a pain in the a$$ to clean up! I guess if I am going to do it though I should do it right.

The Krylon Paint has a satin black and says that it can bond with vinyl, metal and plastic, so perhaps that is the route?

Dude...if you put Armoral on the paint you had better clean it off real well before top-coating. Use a cleaner like Prepsol or Pre Cleano or you will have a fisheye problem. Not you...the fresh paint. Krylon semi flat comes purdy close to being a good match and acceptable finish.

Most loca auto part stores carry intrior paint ,its also available at wal mart.Sometimes its called vinyl color or vinyl dye but it is just an elastomeric paint that may be used on anything on the interior.

I didn't put armorall on it, it just looks like it after i sprayed the acrylic enamel. The stuff I used was interior vinyl for some of the stuff for like the kick panels, which I also did, the only problem was that I wanted a clear coat over them to protect them and upon doing that they got really glossy from the clear coat. Regardless it sucks...

I used the stain black and it works really well matches the orginal parts. I take it you painted the metal parts. Did you also over coat the Vinyl parts? I use just a local parts store vinyl paint and it works great. I have a 76 that is buckskin color and the buckskin paint matches exactly. If you need the name of the paint I can get it. I did not over coat any thing. I guess you will have to remove the over coat and then repaint with the satin black.

You can purchase a product called de-glosser (liquid sandpaper) at any hardware store. It removes the gloss before repainting. I've used it many times as a paint prep. You may want to try it on a small area and see if it removes enough of the gloss to your liking. It just may work and the cost is cheap. Good stuff to have around the house anyways.

Okie, if you have the name of the paint that you used handy I could use the brand name, I refinished the the shifter cover 3 times before I was happy & now I'm looking for a good doeskin match for the seat backs & the T-top trim.

What I got at my local parts store, it is a parts store that deals mostly with body work, is call "SEM Colorcoat, Flexible Coating. Color is Light Buckskin 15093 and it matches my 76 Buckskin interior great. I have painted my center consol and all three major parts of the dash and it has not peeled or faded at all. I recommend it.

Thanks Okie, I'll look for sem, I'm finding it easier to ask what other people have used that works and stands up...I brobably would have only had to paint the other parts once if I'd read more :-)
