Intermittent Problem

I have an intermittent problem with my '87 L-98 convertible. It seems to appear in two different occasions or conditions. The first condition is when I have just started it for the first time that day, the electric cooling fan will come on for about 2 sec. and then cut off. When it comes on the engine runs rough and sets Code 36 on my AutoXray. The Code 36 is from the rough idle I think.

The other occassion is when I am in stop & go traffic and the coolant temp is around 228. The engine starts running rough and I have to give it a little throttle to keep it going. Also when this happens the Service Engine Soon Light comes on and the Average MPG digets on the dash Lock at 12.8.

I can shut the motor off and restart and then it may run normally. If I shut it off for several hours the Service Engine light might not come back on and no codes are found. Besides the Code 34 some times I get Code 36. I have replaced the MAF Sensor, checked the circuits 998 and 994 for shorts and grounds, but found no problems.

Anyone have ideas? This is agrivating!

I have check the air tube for cracks and replaced the relays before. Unless one of the relays is flakey. Have not seen the post for the trip to Helen.
