Just to add for clarification.....
Pulling and "reading" plugs is the best way to begin trouble shooting engine troubles when it comes to performance reduction symptoms like missing, skipping, loss of power etc. The plugs give a visual clue as to what is going on inside the combustion chamber. Like going to your physician and he listens to your heart and lungs, first thing he does isn't it. Then he obtains a blood sample to screen for other things that he/she can't see from the outside.
If you don't have the technical expertise to read the plugs, try going to your local auto parts store and see if they sell a plug chart. It should have several photos of plugs ranging from normal burn, to those that have abnormal combustion chamber burn characteristics. Good luck, keep us posted as to your findings.
