Hi To All,
My newest playtoy is an iPod with the iTrip x-mitter. The Apple rep told me there maybe problems using the iTrip in the Vette because the antenna is in the windshield.
Just wondering if anyone else has tried using the iPod with the iTrip in their Vetts?

Brian,
Antenna is in the windshield? What? :confused This is news to me (as well as everyone with a coupe or convertible, given the power antenna at the rear of the vehicle.)

Are you sure this Apple rep understood where the antenna was in a C5?

Hey Patrick,
I've heard this before, and since my 98 coupe with targa top hasthe antenna in the windshield, could you tell me which years of the C5 did not have the windshield antenna?
Just really curious. I think my windshield antenna was an option, but for the life of me, can't figure out why anyone would want a stick antenna coming up out of a fender. And is that the left rear quarter panel? or where????

Thanks Patrick.

Joe

I have a Hardtop and use the Monster Cable FM transmitter with my iPod. It works as well in the Vette as any other vehicle that I've tried it in. The antenna is in a fixed position in the back right corner though, which is different from your coupe's antenna position, so these results may not correlate. :pat

I use the iPod/iTrip and it works fine (usually stick it in the so-called cup holder).
I also just added the Delphi XMSkyFi2, which transmits FM (mounted it behind & between the seats) and it also works well.

The C5 Coupe (targa top) has the antenna in the windshield and the back-light (rear glass). The Hardtop (Z06) and convertible have a pole type antenna in the rear fender.

I think it should work but try the I-pod FM device out first. Make sure there is an unconditional return policy.

Works fine in my C5 or C6.
Find a non-used FM frequency and tune in your ipod. This can be set with the software of the iTrip.
Works like a charm.

iPod and FM transmitters

Having used every iPod FM transmitter under the sun, I can offer a few thoughts. 1) The quality of the sound you will get will always vary with the make and model of the FM transmitter and the radio receiver in the car. My after market Sony head unit and glass embedded antenna never did that well. Pick one that draws power from the iPod, not one that requires batteries. Even so, you'll loose about 1-2 hours of battery play time because you're also powering the FM transmitter, but it's better then swapping AAA's every month. Just get a cigarette power adapter. 2) Every now and then you will get a little static, just a fact. 3) Because you are transmitting over FM frequencies you are inherently going to reduce the quality of your music. Especially on the low end, read bass. Yes the Bose system does an okay job compensating in some cases, but there is loss. A sub woofer that is looking for music in the 20-500Hz range will not be happy with an FM transmitter. 4) I strongly recommend an after market head unit which will provide auxiliary inputs to allow for an iPod or any other input device to be directly connected via cable. It's the only way to get full quality sounds from an MP3 player. Any music ripped above 128kbs would be pointless if being transmitted over FM. Yes an after market head unit costs more and will take some time to install, but the quality and reduced hassle is well worth it. My Sony head unit required an additional peice, an aux. break out box that allows for several RCA connections and even USB, pictured here. The RCAs to the right are inputs that lead to a 1/4" stereo mini plug that I plug into the headphone port of my iPod. 5) A good quality tape deck and a cassette adapter will have better quality than any FM transmitter and doesn't require a power source. 6) If you must give in to the devil, the iTrip is the best FM transmitter on the market.

My .02 cents.
