Still on my quest to find the right C5....

I have been looking at '01-'02's. However, I came across a good deal on a '98 for MUCH cheaper than I would spend on an '01-'02, and am considering going that route as I would have some money to play around with some mods, which has a lot of appeal to me.

However, I want this car to be cruiser/highway friendly. Would an aftermarket intake+headers+xpipe+exhaust setup be too loud on the highway?

The exhausts I am looking at are the new Corsa Xtreme or B&B PRT, which are basically the same setup, and claim to have a quiet interior/no resonance while cruising. Anyone with experience with these two setups would be greatly appreciated as well!

The Corsa Extreme and the B&B are probably two of the louder aftermarket exahusts you could choose. The answer to your question about the car being "cruiser/highway friendly" depends much on 1) how sensitive your hearing is and 2) how loud you like a car to be.

Personally, I think either of those exhausts would be annoying on a long trip but....1) my hearing is quite good for someone my age and 2) I don't care too much for loud-assed exhaust. I like my cars silent but deadly, that is: I don't care much if people know I'm coming and the car's performance, not its noise, will remind them I was there.

I had side pipes on a C3 for years. Loved it. Sold the C3... for a C5... missed the pipes. Sold the C5 and bought another C3!

Sidepipes...What a great sound. I have BB Bullits on my '00 Vert and the road noise is louder than the exhaust, on the expressway! ... Around town, the Bullits tend to "drone".

My wife has Borla Stingers on her '01 and she really likes the sound of her car.

It all depends what highway worthy means to you. If you are after performance gains then long tube headers, high flow cats, x-pipe, mufflers and intake will make a substantial difference but it will be louder under all driving conditions. Stock exhaust is very efficient so changing the mufflers will only change the sound, most likely make it louder, and won't do much in the performance department. There are sound clips of just about any system on the you tube, just search and hear for yourself.
