Is it good/nice to lower your Shark?

LT4, 69MyWay has that kit. As I said in the last post, He absolutely loves it. He said lowering it is just a matter of turning a bolt. And, he said that yes, handling was drastically improved. Does it handle & corner like a new vette though? As much as I love his car, I doubt it.

I think you can buy some front springs out of one of the magazines fairly cheap and they are a little shorter than stock. I have thought about getting some because mine are old anyway and these should be a little stiffer. Might help keep me from bottoming out.

I also saw the kit they claim gives it handling closer to the C4. It is adjustable for height. Has anyone tried one of these?

But do you we really want stiffer front coils? Wouldn't that be a "harder" ride?

Yeah the ride will be somewhat stiffer. It really depends on what you want to do with the car. If you just want to cruise and enjoy it then there is no need to change. If you want to do certain types of racing with it then, if done properly, it can give you better handling. C3s don't handle near as well as a C4 or C5. My spring is so far gone my tail end is dragging and I bottom out too much. I like to race mine so I'd be interested in a stiffer and maybe a lower ride. I just don't know if I have enough ground clearance to go much lower.

MAKO,I understand what your saying but... I saw Chris at the NCRS show and we discussed how low his car (69MyWay) was. He said yes he does have to be a little carefull but, he also said the car did handle great. There was also a guy there with a slammed 73' and he also seemed to have thought he did a good thing. Both he and Chris seem to put a lot of miles on their slammed rides and enjoy them a lot. I seems by your website that you may spend more of your time at the track than others so, no slammed wouldn't be right for you. But from my contacts with others it seems that if you do it right then low is the way to go. I guess it all depends on how and where you'll drive it and what your personal tastes are. Cheers!

Oh, please don't get me wrong, a slammed car is just georgeous to behold. Just do it intelligently is all I ask.

Cut springs hammer the beejezus out of the spring pockets. I've seen torn pockets on AX cars run with cut springs and it's both expensive and a real PIA to repair that kind of damage.

Buying after market springs is the correct way to do it up front in my opinion, unless your real handy with a stick welder (the pockets are too recessed to get a MIG in there)

Keep the frame level at all 4 corners and look at the half shaft angles, particularly with the suspension under full compession on the bump stops (pull the spring bolts and use a tranny jack to push the wheel all the way up).

As far as ultra slammed goes, that's actually better at the track, it gets the Cg down nice 'n low, which helps the car get through the turns.

If your willing to put up with the header flanges or cross member or exhaust scraping off stuff and going into driveways cockeyed, heh, go for it. I've done all that stuff too, but I'm tired of it, so my Shark is a bit of a high rider, at least for now ;-)

Tnx & CYa!
Mako

PS: I've never heard of over heating problems related to a Y or F car with the correct air dams and seals being too low.

I've seen a few cars too, but I've not seen 'em all. Anyone else have direct knowledge of that problem?

MAKO, do you have the half-shaft safety loops? If so where did you get them and are they easy to install?

I'm pretty happy with the height of my Vette as for now. It's not too high, and not too low. I don't think I'll be fooling with the height of her just yet. ;)

I just can't resist chiming in on this one Ok, here's the deal, lower away BUT:
Mako: ditto

I'm pretty happy with the height of my Vette as for now.
Stallion: Good for you...as Bud's Rarel81 would say..."what? You used to like me the way I was"....:L

Corvette69: I saw in my Super Chevy magazine an advertizing of 17" center-caps and ring wheels....check it out!

I wonder though: has anyone succesfully lowered the body and not the overall frame height...say thinner body insulators?? Is that possible?

Hubs and axles, level

Cream, I think you'll regret cutting a spring. Better to wait, I think.

I was told that the lowest to go in the rear of a C-3 is to have the half shafts level with the hubs. it can be done simply, with hardened, longer bolts.
