Question: is it my fuel pump?

my 1990 has just turned over to 99,000 miles and im having a fuel problem. when i get to about 4.5 gallons left in my tank it acts as if it is starting to run out of gas. as soon as i fill up the tank it runs fine until i get down to about a quarter tank of gas and then it wants to die. ive checked my fuel pressure and its running at 39 psi.

Take the fuel pump out and check the pickup screen. and also make sure all the hoses are connected to the pump. It sounds like athe pick up hose is disconnected or leaking and the pump cannot get to the gas.

How often do you run it really low? You could be picking up swarf and bull crap that lives on the bottom of the tanks. Just and idea. I had my DD do that and it was because I never run it low, and the one time I did, I had what you do at the moment.
