Going too fast over the hill.
The aluminum radiator that I installed over the winter will not cool the car at idle on a 99F day with the A-C running.

The radiator vendor is recommending a pull fan that needs 23amps of my 63amp alternator. With a 30 amp A-C, the fan running, and the lights on, my alternator would be toast.

I need to know if there is an alternator that I can bolt on from some other year of Corvette or GM car. I would like to order a rebuilt from a local car store, to keep the cost down, since I don't know if this idea will work.

Any suggestions?

Does you Vette have the Delco 10-SI alternator? If so you can upgrade it to +/- 100 amps without much trouble. The marine version of the 10-SI is rated at 80 amps by Delco and sells for about $130.

If you want to stay original I think the bits will fit in your alternator case.

Go to a local rebuilder. My 67 deville has a elaborite stereo system in it and I went to a local rebuilder and had him make me a 100 amp alternator for it. (the light's actually still dim when the amps are pulsing) but thats another story.Any ways ask him to build you a high out put alternator. There not much more exspencive then a regular rebuild.

Ps I have always have had a truck to plow snow and the secound season of owning the vehicle I always have the alternator made into a heavey output one.

Also on my caddy it has heave 1 gauge wire( the size you connect to the battery to) leading to the amps make sure your wire size matches the ampreage you exspect to draw.

no 10si - it has a 63amp delcotron - I would like to keep the plug-in alternator wiring. Got a look at at one on ebay that's 135amp. It would leave the harness intact, and I can tap directly off the alternator with a fused line to drive the fan - no load on the harness - no mods to the car.

Right now, everything depends on how the trip to Hershey PA (next week) goes with the 7 blade fan I just installed. If that's a success - the roadster goes to the mountains in Montana the week after Hershey. Then I get down to overheating problems - thanks for the help.
