Iam learning bout these cars little by little...was wondering...is that a glove box I see under the airbag in the c5?

Also are there any little cubby holes or storage places in the c5 like there is in the c4?

and last....whats involved in replacing out the factory radio with any aftermarket job? Is there enough room for a double din setup?

thanks guys....and if anybody knows of any other place I can learn some more general common knowlege c5 stuff, please forward me over...

Hi there,
Well, this is the best place to start when obtaining knowledge on any Corvette, be it c5 or the earlier models.
You can check out the c5 knowledgebase, which contains all pertinant service bulletins for Corvette.
Yes, there is a glove box underneath the passenger side air bag module. Also, there is a small compartment behind the shifter on the center console. Although it is not as deep as the c4 console, it still is handy, and also has a accessory outlet, for a cell phone or something else.
There are also 3 storage compartments in the rear of c5, one large one in the center, and 1 small one on each side, behind the wheel wells.
Honestly, IMO, there is better storage on c5, than I have seen on any Corvette to date.
As for the radio, please understand, yes, you can change out the stereo, however, this stereo communicates with other control modules, and could generate codes.
More often than not, I do more of speaker upgrades, utilizing the standard locations, than changing the head unit. If you have the 12 disc changer, than just upgrading the speakers will definately give you awesome sound, considering that the Bose system will produce up to 500 watts peak output.
Allthebest, and let us know if we can assist further, c4c5:hb

Some folks I know have upgraded speakers and added a subwoofer with some nice results. Many have changed over the head unit as well. I haven't gotten that far yet, just the go fast mods.

Is a speaker swap a pretty straightforward deal?

I have a pair of Boston Acoustics Pro Series 5.5 component speakers that I would like to swap out with the Bose C5 door speakers.

Never having seen inside the door panel yet and knowing that the Bose speakers are, as I understand it, themselves amplified, makes me wonder if it is a plug and play install or if there is more involved.

All this is assuming that the BA speakers would fit in the space vacated by the Bose.

Hi there,
Just remember, in the door, the speaker assembly has 2 speakers, the woofer, and the tweeter.
The woofers amplifier is in that assembly. The tweeter is not part of the amplifier driver, and is driven separately by the radio.
Everything depends on the speakers that you use.

c4c5specialist, Ok so the doors have a sub and a tweeter the tweeter runs straight from the radio and the sub is amplified. The rear 6 1/2s are those also amplified or do they run from the radio? Does the bose radio have a built in cross over or is the signal full range and each speaker has a capacitor to block bass? The reason I ask is even if you turn up the bass and fade to the back you hear no bass from the rear so I assume either the radio has a crossover or each speaker has a capacitor. This is important to know because if you leave the stock head and put a high to low for a sub off of a connection that has a Highpass filter it wont sound very good. I was planning on adding a high to low off the rear speakers but it doesnt sound like its full range.

Hi there,
The design is the reason why you do not get a bass frequency from the rears.
Your 6.5 speakers are for midrange to high frequency. They are not for low end bass.
The power amplifier in each door assembly will equalize and drive the front subwoofers. This also has builtin active equalization, and distortion limiting circuitry.
Your 6.5 and the 3.5 are driven off an internal amplifier from the radio itself. Also, the signal processing computer for the Bose plays a critical part in the signal separation, low, mid, and high, to each individual speaker.
So, with this, you can see how the system works, and the reason why you are not getting bass out of the rear speakers.
