Welcome to the Corvette Forums at the Corvette Action Center!

is this for real?

C'mon...what do you think?

Anyhow, you don't have the hood clearance to stick one of those things in there....

I would have to seriously question 10-20 hp with just a spacer. Maybe 5-10 hp on a good day. I would rather invest the $125+ towards a decent cam. Just my .02

Re:

I'm not 100% sure about this put I remember reading some place that spacers give like 5-10, but your low end drops. Anyone else hear this, or am I remembering wrong?

I guess, theoretically, it might be possible. The "10" end of the spectrum seems more likely than the "20" end, though. But, like Chris says, you give up bottom end. You might get better numbers with the spacer, but you'll probably have better real power without. Well, unless you made other modifications to take advantage of the spacer. As a bolt-in, though, I'd pass.

I saw an add for that in Mid-America. It also put question in my mind. And there's no way I would give up any low-end power. For me, I don't race her and get her 5000+ RPM so I love the low end torque of the L48 (280 ft. lbs. @ 2400 RPM :) more than the loved L82 which only has 260 ;)).

I agree about putting the money towards something more useful. :)

I agree with Stallion. I love that low end. I'm cammed for the low end. A carb spacer is going to act somewhat like a tunnel ram. It will raise the RPM point that you achieve the highest torque/HP. Not good for these heavy beasts IMHO.

I think rpounds is right. There are plenty of engine components that are tuned for specific rpm. This has to do with all the harmonics of the air, like sound, as far as I know. If it makes the engine better up top it should make the bottom less beastly but it all depends on what you want. Id ask to see a torque/horsepower vs rpm chart. I don't like peak numbers because they can be fleeting. For example I remember someone saying the honda s2000 doesn't get its poweruntil you get int the 8000rpm range when the VTEC kicks in. The peak power is not representative of the entire curve.
Many have derided the spacer, but maybe it suits a purpose you want. Id ask to see a chart ona similar engine.
