having never previously owned a vette i was wondering.....when i am going about 20-30 mph and i step on the gas all the way,it will go to about 3000-3500 rpms with no downshift but, when i am going 50-55 and step on it,it will have a big downshift and go from 4000-4700 rpms then it will shift up!{it's an automatic tran. '86}just wondering if this seems about right or???any help would be greatly appreciated.thanks in advance!

Experiment with it, get on it at 18 or 16 mph and see if you notice a difference. This is basically what mine does, but i can get it to kick down hard up to 25 mph, however my bro can only get his to kick down up to 18 mph. You could also use the gear selector to put the tranny in low 1 then floor it.

Yes this is normal it did that in mine. When I got my Thermo master chip it would going about 20 it would kick into first anything after that it wont. You could always if need be throw it down into 1, I would not recomend this all the time but I dont think it will hurt it.

Yes i have been driving it hard indeed!

Not to get away from his question but shame on you :nono :nono :nono no wonder why it is getting rebuilt. Like my brother said play around with what speed it down shifts and you might want to get a street master or thermo master chip. The good thing about those is it kicks the main fan on at 175 keeping that engine cool.
