It's been about 6 weeks since my car was reassembled and what fun it was to drive. Now, It's apart again.

I'm in the process of rebuilding a tempermental carb, that should be done today.

Tore up most of the dash yesterday to get the radio out, since it hasn't worked in the last 4 years. Sending it out today for a rebuild/stereo conversion. It may not be original anymore, but at least I'll have some tunes when I want.

Since the dash is already torn up, today I'll start removing the old heater assembly getting ready for the Classic Air unit that should arrive in the next week or so. Also got all the new pulleys, brackets and wiring ordered that I needed to move my alternator from the pass side to the drivers side.

Already installed my "stealth" cruise control, so long trips are not a problem anymore.

Going to be a lot of work in the next few weeks, as I'm really trying to be ready for Carlisle. I'll be there even if I don't have a dashboard. :upthumbs

As you know, idle hands are the Devil's workshop. ;)

Keep on building your dream car. :beer

It would be appreciated if you could take pics of the A/C installation and note any significant modifications and extra parts needed beyond those provided. My alternator is already on the driver's but I'm sure there will be something else! Thanks.

Paul - where do you get the time? Keep it up and you'll have that body stripped and painted before you know it!

Steve

Hmmmm....I'm also moving the sb alternator to the driver's side using aftermarket brackets (Summit)....looks like I need to clear the alternator with a new radiator hose and i need a swivel 0* thermostat housing - yet another engineering project....i feel like VNV, what with getting to know the UPS guy so well

which alternator brackets did you get?

Paul67 & Kid Again,
The car was originally a 327/300 that I converted to a 327/365 setup with the LT-1 solid lifter cam. At the moment, I'm using all the stock Corvette SHP deep groove pulleys for a 65 327/350 with power steering.
With the addition of the air conditioner, I will be moving the alternator to the driver's side with the factory mounts, (can by used with the stock upper hose) a deep groove add-on P/S crank pulley and different waterpump pulley (A/C specific) and power steering pump pulley. All the new pulleys are the deep groove ones used for a 65 327/350 Corvette with A/C and P/S. I like to stay with the factory engineered stuff. Much easier, since they did all the thinking 40 years ago. No sense re-inventing the wheel.
The only non stock brackets will be the ones that the Sanden compressor mounts to, since Classic Air recommended not using the A-6 compressor because the Sanden 508 is more efficient. I didn't have the SHP idler pulley due to the power steering. Also using the non-SHP oil pan so the P/S system would fit. The entire setup is virtually a 64 with all the mechanicals for a 65.
When I get all the parts delivered, I'll post the GM part numbers as well as the stock numbers from the suppliers I got them from. Maybe save some of you all from the research I had to do. When it's all done, I'll add some more pics

Steve,
I just rebuilt the carb. Changed the power valve and the needle/seat assemblies. The gaskets in there were not the newer blue Holley ones, so maybe one was leaking by. There was also some sort of crud on the old power valve. Cleaned and blew everything out, checked all parts for warpage (none found) but haven't driven anywhere yet as the rest of the car is in pieces. Started right up with no leaks. Let it warm up and reset the float levels. (BTW- I did all that stuff in my first post yesterday afternoon, and rebuilt the clock today).

For those who may be interested,
I used the same cruise control that MagicV8 is using. Dash mounted control, Audiovox from J.C.Whitney. I was able to hide the control head down inside the left front fender well. Attached the mounting bracket to the #1 body mount bolt at the firewall. Had to play with the switch settings a bit to get it to work, but it's really great. It has the option of measuring speed from the driveshaft or the coil (-) post. I went the coil setup, since in 4th gear, the engine won't run any faster than the driveshaft. Ran the throttle cable and wiring along the top of the firewall along with the stock wiring. Virtually invisible except for where the throttle control attaches to the throttle rod near the carb. Control buttons are stashed under the dash. Easy to get to, hard to see.

OK, looks like I'll be going back to LICS to check out the driver's side brackets. BTW, I use that Sanden compressor with R134a and I see no need for an R12 system. I do, however, run the direct drive fan.

I think you are going to need the 65 drivers side manifold for an A/C car if you are planning to use the factory driverside mounting hardware for the alternator... If you use the manifold you have it may not have the mounting bosses... Ask how I know.. I bought some 2.5" ramshorn mainfolds the ones that the General sells now and no mounting boss. I ended up using a "F" bracket like you would use on headers... Dave..

Hey while we're spending someone else's money... Instead of hacking up your 65 harness why not just get a 66 engine bay harness or a 65 A/C harness... .

Ghezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz... A/C... Cruz Control....I guess next will be Butt warmers for the seats...then power door locks and Anti lock brakes and "ASR".

Might as well went out and bought a C-5 basket case and dropped your C 2 body on it...:L

Or....Do what 67 Heaven does....Have a Support Vehicle Follow you around..When you get tired ..just pull over ..climb in the Support Vehicle and take a nappy...;LOL

Not only will Bob not pull over for a nappy in the support vehicle he won't accept kind hearted offers to take over the driving chores for a while so he can rest and cool down in that support vehicle. :L

Im using the stock 327/300 2 1/2 manifolds for 64. The drivers side one has the alternator bolt holes facing forward, The pass side had the mounting holes on the side. I'll post the numbers later.

See that is the manifold that I wanted so I didn't have to screw with a "F" bracket....

The correct 2 1/2" manifolds for 64/65 300, 350, 365 hp engins are as follows:

Left: 3846563
Right: 3797902

These will allow for using the stock, year correct, alternator and/or A/C brackets.
"F" style bracket for pass side Alternators, "F" style type pass side A/C brackets,
correct style driver's side Alternator brackets (mounts to front of manifold). (Shown in many catalogs as 64/65 Alt bracket with A/C)

Checked the LICS catalogue and I see what you guys are talking about. Unfortunately, I have headers - so much for that.

OK, no problem. I do a "VNV", find me a bling-bling catalogue and order me the largest, shiny-est powder coated driver's side alternator bracket I can find. Since Mark has achieved UPS "Super Shipper" status, I just have all my orders dropped shipped to his house. Very convenient for me.

Heck, I ought to just check his "Returns" pile to see if he already ordered one. Saves me shipping. ;LOL

Funny but could be true with the amount of stuff he's ordered in the last six months......

See I should have just looked longer to get the manifold I wanted for the drivers side but it was said that they were no longer manufactured and since they were made really only for 64/65 A/C cars that they were very hard to find... (WOW RUNON)...... Dave...

We all have to just face it and admit to it.We are all sick here.

Just remember the first step to a recovery is to admit that, Its a sickness,an addiction, and we cant stop doing it alone

I can just picture the Corvette addiction group meeting.

Hello group my name is Larry.I have to admit I am adicted to working on Corvettes,At first I used to work on Mustangs but as with all addictions,I ended up getting into the hard stuff (Corvettes) around September of 2000,Yes the Mustangs satified my needs foarsd or a while but some how I still had money in my bank accounts and some free time to spend with my family.

It wasnt until I got into the hard stuff (corvettes) that I was able to drain all of my bank accounts completely and spend every free moment I had going thru the vendor catalouges making material list and spread sheets and working on the car.

Allow me to indroduce to the group my other addicted freinds who have been enableing me to aquire information and sources for the parts I so despritely desire. Group meet the Corvette Action Center users.

I could make a long list of examples of why I know the Majority of the fellows on this board are sick and addicted (I have been studying you all for quite a while and see you are all just as sick as me)but YOU ALL KNOW WHO YOU ARE and there is no reason to embarres any one
