1986 Black C4 Convertable
Hi guys and girls.

Living in England as I do, I have to put up with on a very regular basis cold damp mornings. My car is a convertable as you can see and usualy within a few seconds my windows are all mist free and the car is toasty warm.

WELL, not any more!!!!!!!! My fan has stopped working! it was intermitant now nothing.

Want to try and fix this myself as the local guy charges a fortune.

Has any one done any work on this area and is there any advice that any one has for me. Please. Its cold!!!!

Cheers in advance

Hi,

Yes mate, it was an intermitant problem until recently. seemed to depend on where the heat slider was??

There is a possibility that I was looking at the wrong fuse.......will check again.

Cheers

If this has been acting up depending on the position of the temperature slider, I think I'd look there after seeing that the fuse is ok. Could it be that you have a bad or loose connection which would account for the previous intermitant problems?

I have the automatic HVAC system so I can't really tell you much more. It doesn't seem to be a big job to pull the control panel and take a looksee though.

It may be the contacts on the slider. You mentioned that it was an intermittent problem. Shouldn't be too hard. Get some electrical contact cleaner (spray can). If that doesn't do it you may try diassaembly and clean the contacts with an eraser ... yep regular pencil eraser. Just rub the slider contacts.

On most GM cars a relay or contactor is used to controll the fan. Not 100% sure on the vette. Check for a burnt connection on the relay if it has one.

There is a fan relay right beside your dipstick. You can pull the connector, unbolt the plate and replace the relay for cheapo. If that's not the problem, it's probly the fan switch itself. Dealer only I believe.

Thanks guys,

will have a look at all of this.
