Its finally painted!!

The 81 finally got painted last week!! :W :W Man it really shines!!! and he hasn't even wet sanded or buffed it yet,hope to have it back next week so I can put it back together and get it running!!:W It turned out better than I ever could have imagined!!!

Boy, does that look familiar! I just got mine primed yesterday and will be painted Saturday or Sunday. I just hope it looks as nice. We must be on the same schedule or something, eh? Now comes the fun part of remembering where everything is and how it goes on. We have a couple car shows in this area in the coming weeks, but I'll probably have to black out the windows so the crappy interior isn't visible. Anyhoo, the car looks great!

with the exception of the center console and the dash the interior was removed so we could sand blast the windshield frame.I'll probably just put the drivers seat back in to drive it home(only 2 miles) bill

Looks great! Looking at the pix I have a couple of questions about painting in general. I'm still new to this. Do you have to remove the headlight doors to get full coverage along both the body and door edges or is there a technique to work around that without removing? Also, isn't the paint different for the nose and rear bumper and should they be removed and painted seperately or taped and painted in place? I'm certainly partial to the color. Very classy look! Good luck getting her back together and don't waste too much of the fair weather.

the way you see the vette there is the way it was painted,the mirrors were removed as wellas the headlite bezels only b/c both doors were new and we wanted to get them as close to factory looking with the overspray as possilble

I took a look at you resto photos and you had your work cut out for you with that body. Not just a repaint, eh? This is definitely a major milestone for your project. Hope you' get to enjoy it soon.

I can relate here too, Bill, I got a new rear flexfit and it was a ROYAL pita. Apparently the car was hit on the driver's side and not put back together right. The new bumper was way off, but now they match. The front bumper was already fiberglass, so it wasn't a problem to scrape. It was also a whole lot of fun taking the windows out to get the mirrors off. The guy said about taking the headlight doors off to paint them, I said 'no way' Upon further review, taking out the bezels like you also did was the way to go. I even got fiberglass T-tops, so when I replace the carpet (it's faded to pink!) it will stay red a little longer, I hope.
Good work, you'll be done before you know it!
