Been having a problem with my car for several month now. When I turn on the lights the gauges all go to zero. Several hundred dollars later the dealer said it is fixed. Each time P ipck it up the problem is still there. The latest was to replace the headlight switch because there was a short through the switch. I picked it up an hour ago and the problem is still there only worse because now my headlights come on but don't open.
Does anyone have the wiring schematics for an 81 vette??? I can't do any worse than the dealership!

I have Corvette Shop Manual from when I purchased car new in 81. Send me an E-mail at cddmhr@peoplepc.com and I will send you scanned pictures of the applicable pages, if you don't get a after market manual first that meets your needs. Will need specific info on which gages go to zero or what shows on each.

I think your problem is minor. It will just take a while to find it. Reason your lights don't go up I think is because you probably reversed the vac lines on the headlight switch or one has come off.

Lights on....guages go to zero??? Sounds like a short in the circuit. Many variables. If your problem was before the fuse panel (everything goes through there) you would blow fuses. If I had to guess I would say your problem is in the connector at the rear of the center cluster. There is a circuit board back there as well. Part of the board supplies the signal to the guages and part to the lights. I think what is happening is you have power to the guages with the lights off and when you turn the lights on you send power again to the same guage circuit because of a cross in the cronnector or board. Take out the center cluster and check the connector and board.

I offer full color large format laminated wiring diagrams for 1953 through 1981. Each includes the lamps, fuses and on the C3, the color coded vacuum schematics for the heater-a/c controls, headlights and the windshield wiper door
