'92 arctic white coupe
Hey everyone,
I'm a new poster to CAC but I've been viewing it for awhile,
lots of good info here,
I have a '92 coupe w/ 69k miles that I recently bought
I just wanted to know what year GM switched to mobil1 and dexcool in the Vettes
I'm used to my '84 which I need to sell (can't really afford 2 Vettes:() and not really up on the LT1 yet, although I will read the owners manual and I just got the factory service manuals also,
Thanks for reading my post ....later..... John

Here goes (someone correct me if I am wrong) Before the LT1 was introduced there was an oil cooler with the L98. GM discovered that the Mobil one would make the engine run cooler. It ran enough cooler that they could remove the oil cooler. This was a substantial cost savings and did not effect the life of the engine. Also the Mobil 1 had higher heat break down than regular oil. This was not only done to the engine a full synthetic oil was used in a manual transmission made in Muncie. In testing the transmission in hot climates the temperatures were excessive. In a last ditch effort to get the temperature down and make the production date the transmissions were changed to a Castrol oil. The transmissions ran about 50 degrees cooler during the test cycle.

Welcome to the CAC

All the LT series engines had the synthetic oil like John said. DexCool came in 94 (IIRC) along with R134a refrigerant for the AC.

Thanks guys, I was going to ask abot the a/c freon also, but toms94 already answered that, So my '92 DOES have R12, Thanks a bunch youguys........John

DexCool is the extended life radiator fluid. Right? If so, I thought that DexCool came in the picture for the Corevette in '96.
