Recently changed the fuel pump/strainer in my '89 and it was as easy as everyone say's :) thanks to the handy info and friendly advice found here... Anyways after sitting for a day or so I did a pressure test on it a few minutes ago and with the key on it held an even 42psi and once started and idling it sat right around 38-39psi... Only thing is I dont know how old this pressure regulator is but are these readings pretty spot on? The car still cranks for a few seconds (cold and hot) but fires right to life,is that normal?

Do I or should I change the fuel pressure regulator for saftey precautions or get in and drive? I got new injectors/fpr but would rather not dig in to the car if I dont have to.

Any help would be appreciated! :w

c4steve, the cranking time your are reporting is normal on a 1989 L98. GM added additional crank time to build extra oil pressure before starting This was a change from 1988 and prior L98s that had an almost instart start hot or cold. A trick I use is to turn the ignition on, count to 3, then start to reduce cranking time. I much preferred how my 1988 started, but I guess GM had a good reason to change this.

Awesome! Thanks a bunch guys :) . Runs great although I probably should have done something about that gas meter thingy... reads 3/4th tank with 80 miles left on the range yet tank was around 3/4 or so after I pulled the sending unit.... Hmmmm...

Take it easy :cool

i had to put a fuel pump on my LT1 and it made the pressure where it needed to be but it still had the long cranking problem...i checked the pressure and when i cut the key on it jumped up to where it was supposed to be and soon as the pump shut off the pressure went down drasitcally..it ended up being my fuel pressure regulator!
Just my .2 cents

happy vetting
