And the car seems to run kind of "lumpy." Is this normal or am I just imagining things?

I made sure to use needle nose pliers and pluck out every last piece of wire from the circular frame.

How much do I stand to gain from this?

Well, hell. How much air flow restriction will the screen impose? Not much, I'd wager, as long as grandma or some rice rocket such is not stuck in there!

I understand that the biggest restriction in airflow is the size of the MAF hole vs the rest of the intake. In any event, the question really is, how much air will it flow and how much does your engine need?

Sorry, but I have neither the specs or the calcs on either. Seems a 350cid air pump will only flow so much air at max RPM. How much is enough? A 52mm TB seems to cut it fine for my 406 at 6500. It doesn't now, but did flow through a (cored) MAF.

:w

The MAF on vettes doesn't really need screens. #1 The filter should be keeping dirt out #2 our intake tract is straight and doesn't need straighteners (unlike silverados, camaros, ect)

I decreened mine, grinded out the fins in the middle, and ported the whole thing. Not that I really can tell a difference, I just feel better seeing a smoother intake tract (still waiting on those lousy smooth air couplers from Mid america.......how hard is it to make 2 6 inch tubes of plastic without wrinkles? )

If the cars runs bad afterwards, I think something else is wrong.

Did you plug it back in? I know, stupid question, but it may be the obvious answer... also, it is really easy to damage the MAF while removing the screens... hopefully yours isn't damaged

Yes, those little "angel hair" wires in the middle are pretty sensitive. Whenever I did anything to my MAF, I always took the ends off of it, laid the sensitive center plastic section aside, and then went to work.
