Just sold my C6, Callaway is it for late model Vettes

I just sold my black Z51 C6 6-speed that I purchased in October of 2004. The car had 1600 miles on it. I hate to say it but this car just didn't put a lasting smile on my face. For the first month it was good, but quickly went downhill after that.

I hope I don't offend anyone with my opinions on the C6, but it doesn't hold a candle to my Callaway. The Callaway has really spoiled me. I also bought a C5 convertible back in 1998 and it only lasted 6 months before I sold it.

I think the looks of the Aerobody Callaway are light years ahead of the C5 or the C6. The interior is more comfortable in the Callaway and while it might not have some of the latest electronic gizmos that the C6 had, it has everything that I need.

I am a die hard fan of C2, C3, and C4's - but it stops there. Again, sorry if I have offended anyone. I guess I like cars that are not mainstream and that you don't see everywhere.

Steve, Funny you mention this right now, as I just got back from a Corvette dinner - about a dozen, plus Vettes, all different years :cool

As we left, a blue C6 romped on it from two different lights, playing quick :eek
Taking the exit ramp, he romped it right at the end and w/ a quick 2nd to 3rd, I had to let off - Those Callaway SuperNatural powers again! The car behind me, I thought was an LT4 car as it was staying close however, as soon as I let off it ripped past :eek It was my friends LPE 390 cube ZR1
I don't know where the blue C6 was headed but the ZR1 owner missed his exit ramp to the highway he was hauliong so fast :eek

I am a believer in the Callaways looks & power too

C4's for me too. The new C6 coupe looks like the back half of the car was chopped off. It just does not look in proportion with the front. Plus it has the look of an import. The C4 has it's own look. It doesn't share that with any other car. From a distance I can't tell if it's a C6, the new Viper, or a Mazda coming towards me.
As for the Aerobody, it's a timeless design. The proof is when a non vette person asks if it's the current new vette.

How about a CALLAWAY C6

One neat C4'ish thing I felt driving the C6 is the "feel" of the c4's looks as you look outward of the side mirrors - While I wouldn't give up my Callaways for a C6, I would certainly add a Callaway C6 to the corral :cool


The XM and Nav are cool as well, and the built in G-Meter

I brought up a thread maybe a year ago when someone asked me if the picture I was looking at, was a new vette and to their surprise it was a picture of your 93 SNAT Chris during the fall season. (foilage) What other rides do you classify as having a timeless design. In the military avaition department the SR-71 is a classic example of an ageless design, to this date it still retains major aeronautical speed records.

Well, this has been a pleasant surprise. I was kind of thinking that someone might take exception to my comments on the C6. I have to stop needlessly donating money to Chevrolet.

Oh yah, and about the G-Meter. I turned it and the entire HUD off because it was too distracting. Now, back to the dyno....

Actually while I don't dislike the look of the C6, I agree that the changes are not aggresive enough for it to be a new generation. I had a red C6 try to take me and he was seriously dissappointed .


I'll take my B2K over a C6 anyday.

Perhaps the C6-Z06 will be more inspiring to me.

Steve, did the novelty of an in car G-meter wear off?? I kinda liked the G-meter function on the HUD :cool

Lamborgini Coutach, Ferrari 308 / 328 / 255 GTO (all similar lines), Porsche 959, VW Beetle and a few domestics, very few...

For me, the G-meter novelty wore off almost immediately. I agree that the C6 is a neat car, but I need a car that puts a smile on my face everytime I look at it and drive it. Quite honestly, the only new car that does that for me is a Ferrari.

And as far as the new Z06, even IT does not look as good to me as an Aerobody. I do, however, think that the mechanical aspect of the new Z06 is outstanding.

The other thing that is unique to the C4 platform and Callaway, is the fact that it was a factory option through '91.

Like I have said, as far as Corvettes go, I am hopelessly stuck in the past. Callaway definitely hit a homerun with the Aerobody.

I agree...when I was car shopping the b2k was the only thing that really boiled my blood! Although I would REALLY like to try out a new Z06...i have a feeling Id be wanting one Good thing I won't be driving one anytime soon...

I am right there with you, Steve. I was so darned lucky to have been able to take my tri-black Z-51 C-6 six speed back to the erring dealer. Less than 24 hours had it mostly worn off for me.

A great pal has been offering his low mile '87 Callaway to me for 10 years, but I am having a lot of fun with my 406ed sleeper. Make that much more fun than I found in the C-6, which took a lot of shine off the excellent, new Z06, too.
