I just recently became a corvette owner when my dad gave me his 87 red corvette. it's totally stock and i was hoping i could get some advice on some good mods to start off with.

There are a lot of things you can do in the mods section.

From what I've seen, all of the little "5 hp from removing a screen" or "10 hp from cutting the plastic thing near the intake"... those don't work. Any of those little things usually just mess up the readings for the ECU and make the engine run in a bad fashion. You'll probably lose fractions of a second in 1/4 mile times.

If you really want to do something to make it faster, you have to go all out and get it stroked or supercharged.


BTW: Gutting the cat/straight exhaust just moves the HP/torque curve around and you lose low-end torque.

This is assuming an 87 is very close to a 95, which could be terribly wrong.

You should have no problem finding enough people who disagree with me .

Yea, I agree with you that I don't agree with you.

One of the easiest ways to improve performance on the l98's is to improve air flow. The tpi system was designed for a 305 and is very restrictive. To gain some cumulitive hp, you need to improve airflow. Inexpensive things like modify the maf, gut precats, cut air filter lid and put in a K&N airfilter are a few small things that will help.
Now once you are ready to do more work and blow some bucks, a TPIS ZZ9 cam will really take advantage of your airflow mods. There is a siamese tunner intake mod that really gives it a boost without loosing your bottom end. Adjustable fuel presure regulator will make more fuel available for the increased air flow. If your dad's 87 was an automatic, it probably has a 259 rearend. You can give it a real kick by dropping it to at least a 307. You don't have to stroke it to get a lot of hp. That is probably the cheapest one thing you can do to make it seem faster.

if you are not looking to spend a crap load of money right away, there are a lot of small things that can be done. K&N filter is a def. good idea. prolly cost about 100 or so for the whole set up. not sure don't quote me on that. roller rockers is another easy to do power maker $200 aprox. if ya need any help installing them, if ya would decide to it's easy to do, i can give ya easy steps to do it. but a def good idea. octain boost helps but i'm not sure how well it works on C4's. with all the computer stuff. i had a 78 once, was much easier to modify. flow master exhaust, or straight pipe will help with your engine performance. may take out some bottom end, but def affective.
