I thought I would introduce myself.

My first experience with a Vette was in 1972 a friend of mine had a yellow T Top 1971 with a 454 high-speed rear end. I lived in Denver at the time and we drove it to Vegas. That car was a hoot, cruise at 120-130 all day long. That was back in the days when you had to travel a long distance just to see the next jack rabbit. This was a memorable trip and I promised myself one day I would get a Vette.

At the time I had Triumph TR4 with the famed Lucas electrical system, commonly referred to as “The Prince of Darkness”. When I left town in my TR4 I was way more concerned if I had a spare generator in the truck than a spare tire. It was a wonderful car everything on it was designed to break or wear out quickly. Actually it wasn’t that bad but one would never use the word “reliability” and TR4 in the same sentence while keeping a straight face. I was always amazed at this car the number of ways it could figure out how to break down. The truth is I was rather fond of the car and had it fixed up really nice but then had to sell it in college it was either the car or food.

The last time I saw the car it was in a junkyard. The guy that bought it promptly ran it into a telephone pole. I don’t know what happened to him but the car was definitely finished.

My youngest son just graduated from high school this last week. I am amazed a lot of parents send their kinds on expensive trips as presents. I have always figured this to be backwards. My theory has always been the kids should send me on trip for being such a great dad. So to celebrate the completion of this leg of the journey with my two boys I went out and bought a Vette for myself.

I have been reading this forum for a long time and enjoy the hell out of it. The people here are not only extremely knowledgeable but also really nice people. I can’t stand the boards where there is one flame after the next. One of the reasons I decided to go ahead with the purchase was I knew I could always come here and fined some help not matter the topic. I have spent entire evenings rolling back through the pages reading the posts. I am always amazed at the knowledge base here.

I have officially fallen in love with the Vette it is a Ruby Red LT1 40th anniversary with a six speed and flow masters. I got out of the car the other day and some lady, about my age, that I didn’t even know walked up to me and said, “So are you having a mid life crisis”? With out missing a beat I slowly raised the wrap around sunglasses and I looked her straight in the eye and said, “Darlen if this is a crisis bring it on I will take all of this I can get.”

Hi there, welcome to the CAC and congrats on your graduation present. I like that kind of thinking! My oldest just graduated high school and the youngest... kindergarten. Guess my graduation present is still quite a ways away...

I spent the first 17 years of my life in Eatonton. My dad still lives out there. Lake Oconee is a nice area, especially if you're in the real estate business ;)

How about some pics of your 40th anniv?

Welcome, nice story. I bought my first vette @ 39 and I got the "Mid-life crisis" bit a few times. I just told them it was a life - long dream finally fulfilled. Your car sounds nice, enjoy it!! Guy

Hi there and welcome to the CAC!
Enjoy that vette - And post some pics when time allows(now that ya have that "empty nest"!) haha

It is funny how everyone assumes its a mid life crisis when you get a Corvette. Hollywood give us that idea?
Have fun-

Welcome Onboard Ruby Red

Congadulations and welcome to Corvette Brotherhood. I had similar comments from my firends when I bought my 95 LT-1 Yellow Coupe last summer. They named it a mid-life crisis and that may be the case...

It dawned on me one those days that I was not giving any presents to myself but kept on working and making money for the family - my wonderful wife and 2 great sons (16 & 23). When I asked my wife about her opinion of buying a Corvette, it was a great answer. She said "look, you have worked so hard over 24 years of our marriage, and never had a hobby. Assume you had a hobby for so many years; you would have spent a good amount of money, right? So, go spend it now & get the car...". I already told she is a wonderful wife; and the answer did not surprise me a bit; she was darn right... So I spent US$33K (cars are expensive in Turkey ) to get it and another US$1K or so to make it look even better.

I am the only one in the family who drives the car and my kidos have no objection to that; they have their own toys and I have mine. The whole family still enjoy the car. We keep it in our garrage, we clean it, wash it, improve it, read about it, etc etc etc. And we also go to drag racing here; just to watch not for the competition.

If they calll this a mid life crisis, so be it!!! I am ready for such problems any time folks.

:beer :beer :beer

Welcome, I also have a 93. Every time I drive it...."It feels like the very first time" (Boston). I hope my mid life crisis never leaves! Enjoy the new ride!

thanks for the note neighbor
