Hey y'all,
Wanted to see if anybody has had a problem like this before. I hate taking my car to the dealer. My primary key fob failed to work. It would not unlock the car when I walked up to it or pop the hood or doors when I pressed the buttons. I could walk away for a few minutes then it would unlock the doors and start the car but the buttons would not work. Around the 3rd or 4th time it did this it took a long time, 10 minutes or so, of walking away and coming back to get in the car. Button still didn't work. So, I got sick and switched to the 2nd FOB. It worked for a day then quit. Same thing. I then tried to do the ole key in the trunk thing, turned it 5 times in 5 sec, to get the car to learn a new fob and nothing. The manuel says the dash should say "ready for fob x" but it never got there. I placed the fob in the glove box anyway and after a few minutes it would unlock the door and start the car but the buttons would still not work. What gives?

Nope, I pulled them both and checked just to be sure. Both were at 3V.

ive had inconsistant things happen with my fob as well. You usually will get a short horn burst when locking and setting alarm. Sometimes I do sometimes I dont. But I havent read the manual very closely either. Aintqik, Id read the manuel first, if you havent allready, and then bring it in for warrenty work. Also if your Z51 brakes squeek at all they will replace them warrenty with ceramic pads, which dont produce as much brake dust, and Ive heard that they are better than the pads installed from factory. They dont squeek either. Ive had a problem with my automatic transmission I need checked. when I first start the car occasionally the shifter will not release. Stuck, wont move and the button wont hardley press to release it to put in drive. Then it will release after 30 seconds or a minute. Binds. When you find out about your fobs let us know.

Made an appointment for Thusday. We'll see what they say.

Just a reminder as well, the fob I believe is transmitting radio waves. Wireless fob. It can be interfered with very easily. I read one person said a speedpass transmitter? I dont know what that is, can cause it to not work. Not sure which frequency it uses. Just a thought.

HI there,
The interference theory is very true.
Many different devices can interfere with the fob system.
If you install the fob in the glove box pocket, and you are still having a problem, I would suspect that either the remote control door lock module or the antenna system is having a problem.
The brakes, being Z51 are extremely aggressive. They are designed that way.
Ceramic composition will wear the brake rotor as you drive, because they are a different composition.
Per a TSB, on Z51 equipped vehicle, you can install coupe/convertible pads, to eliminate the squeak and the dust.
Allthebest, c4c5

The car starts with the FOB in the pocket. But when I take it out the buttons don't work. The door will unlock when I walk up to it.

Turns out both fobs went bad. Musta been hit with cosmic rays. Maybe I'll get some cool super powers. Had one in stock. Took programming fine and works like a champ. The second is on order.
