key is stuck in 1974 ignition

hello, im new to the vette scene. i am rebuilding my girlfriends 74 vette and the ignition key will not twist into the lock position to be able to get it out. i read somewhere to put it in reverse, but it didnt work. is there some secret i dont know about? any help would be appreciated.

i just found the answer in an old post. the interlock cable on the column was disconnected.
