Kick Panel Question

I ordered new kick panels for my 77 and they panel have slots in them where I lever or something might go through there. My old panels, I think (don't have them in front of me), don't have these slots in them. What are they for and do all 77's have them in the kick panels. All I got behind my kick panels is a big nasty rectangular hole.

Nevermind I discovered after I ordered them that CorvetteAmerica has them listed as replacement kick panels and not original for my year. Sorry.

yep.

the replacement panels have the slots, original panels are available, but harder to find, I have a set of panels without slots somewhere and there are several salvagers where the originals can be got, Ebay has some show up, but don't pay too much.
