Hello all this is my first posting,I am currently re-building the engine in my 85 and I am using all after market parts all high performance including high flow aluminum heads. Also up grading the induction with a 58mm throttle body and some port matching.Just a couple of general questions I want to eliminate the knock sensor is this really going to make a difference it performance?Or should I just leave it alone. Also using a DUI distributor 50k coil with performance module. Also glass bead blasted all of the intake parts and i want to paint them anybody got any suggestions on what to use? Looking for a high gloss tough finish.

Keep the knock sensor and solve the code 43. The KS will prevent any detonation once you change the ECM calibration to match your mods which may make the spark curve more aggressive.

If you want a tough, glossy and durable finish, I'd try some kind of clear or aluminum coating. Extreme Performance Heat Coatings up in Oxnard, outside of L.A. is a good choice and the shop I use for all my coating work.

I kept getting that blasted code 43 on acceleration

Sort of like taking your wheels off because you keep getting punctures.
As Hib notes ; you need to find the cause of the knock that the KC is correctly detecting

thank you!!
