Kooks Longtubes

Yeah but seriously, I can't believe people that complain about emissions, but yet they still drive rcars. Why don't they get one of those hybrids, that get 70 mph? Or even better walk or ride a bike to wherever they are going? This is not directed toward anyone so I hope nobody takes it the wrong way.

Is my car bad for the environment? Yes. Are there worse things being done to the environment? Oh yes, so until that changes, I kind of don't see why what I am doing is bloddy murder. My car is not one of those that you see idling and yet burning oil, and when they take off must burn a quart of oil from stop light to stop light...:(

Yeah Edmond I have been to Chicago a couple of times, and don't know how you live there. Do you live in the city or outside of it?

But back to the thread, Does Kook make headers for C4's? :L

I live outside of the city.

I don't know if Kooks makes C4 headers. But with TPIS and Hooker headers being so popular, I don't see any reason to go with others.

WHile we are on the topic of littering, and the environment, why don't you get smoking banned, because I am tired of breathing second hand smoke and getting cancer. Ask your grocer to switch brands of bags, so they are more environment friendly. And anyone who would drink and drive is an IDIOT. So next time, think more carefully of your response, because I found it very offensive. There are more problems in this world then some corvettes running around with no cats. Write your local congress person, and tell them to have big buisnesses cut down on their pollution. I live about 2 hours from chicago, and even closer to gary, both of which produce a haze of smog.

Craig

P.S. Cant we all just get along :)
I agree about banning public smoking in bars and restaurants, it is really annoying.

Paper or plastic is equally bad in terms of environment, paper coffee cups are even worse than styrofoam.

While I agree that Big Business contributes to air pollution no small amount, if they get caught disabling pollution control devices they are in serious trouble.

The illegal Mexican pollutes because he doesn't understand what it takes to maintain a 20 year old + beater car and has no money or incentive to do so.

However, Corvette owners who deliberately disable pollution devices for the sake of a few HP or more noise and then brag about it should know better.

Driving a modern car with all systems working properly is different from disabling smog devices for minute performance gains.

So as long as others are doing bad things to the environment, you have no obligation to change your behavior?

"But Mom, everyone is doing it." So you would jump off a bridge if everyone were doing it?

Many areas have 800-CUT-SMOG fone numbers to call in cars badly smoking, I think the EPA sponsors them. Not that it does a whole lot of good, since many of the cars are unregistered but what the hay...?

This is Z06 TECHNICAL AND PERFORMANCE, ie, C5 Z06 2001-2004.

Why are you posting C4 questions here?

Robert,
I think it is ok since we're on the subject on Kooks Headers. Chill, dude :D

I was posting to Roadster Fans question about the smell, and was trying to get the thread back on track about the headers.

Wow how we turn on our Corvette brothers is amazing. I have no problem staying out of the C5 section. I still do not see the big problem, there are C4's that have passed emissions with no cats on. See mad Mics thread, but dont post in it, you have a C5 :L, but oh well, I am done bickering in this thread. I have made my point about other vehicles/companies, being worse, and nothing has happened to them. See ya later guys :w.

Guy once told me that if the car is running right, it'll pass without cats. If it passes, it must be clean. If it's clean, it's all good.

Yes Brett, I do get that odor from the pipes. I don't blame you for wanting the cats either. Plus you have quite a few ponies to spare by the looks of the C5-R 427 hehe! I'm just trying to make a few ponies and can't spare them like yourself lol. ;) I guess I can blame it on my tuner, he talked me into it. It's very loud and I do get a resonance somewhere in the 2200rpm range. Under full throttle with my extended rpm range it sounds just like a sportbike as I told Gorgon. It's still fun to drive and I have just a couple more things I would like to do, maybe a Fast Intake with a Fast 90, then AFR heads. Then it will be done until something fails. After that I will be in your boat with another block probably. Most likely for me will be a 402, or a 408 block hand built by myself. As sad as it is, it is like therapy for me lol!

Guess I'm lucky....I get zero resonance and I'm running the Z06 exhaust behind the LGM's. Also got the Fast Intake and recently switched to the LS2 throttle body. The LGM 90 throttle body was a waste of money.....never worked properly even after going thru two :eyerole

This fall I plan on putting LS7 heads and intake on my C5-R. They'd be on already, but the offset rockers aren't available yet :cry My engine builder had a set of LS7 heads this last spring (still has them) and they bench flowed 395 :W ......compared to my current 330. Just couldn't get the needed parts to install 'em.

The LS7 heads and intake along with the new Z06 Brembo brakes should finally finish up my mods.......at least for this year :L

Sounds pretty sweet. Yeah, I found out the FAST throttlebody will not work with my car. (ETC) so, let me know more about the LS2 TB please. LS7 heads sound like good numbers at 395cfm wow! I think at a minimum the FAST intake may be next for now. We will see.

I have recently read this article in vetteweb about installing headers on a C5. They tested the C5 with and without the cats and came to a very interesting conclusion. here is a quote from the article "That means that the Random Technologies high-flow cats absorbed less than 1 hp and essentially no torque" and "with results like these, we can't see any reason not to run cats anymore".

You loose less than 1 hp and no torque loss with the cats!! If there Dyno numbers are true, I see no point in installing headers with no cata other than polluting the enviroment.

Thanks for the insight on the Kooks headers...

I may at some point next year replace my FLP's with either the kooks or the LG's...

I can't decide and I'm in no rush. I'll do the cats just to pass the emissions testing here although I've heard the cars without the cats through the stock ti's and it sounded awesome...(but I don't want to have a hassle with the emissions testing...)

Sounds like a great way to go Todd..

Congrats!

JB
