Kumho Ecsta ASX

I see on tirerack.com the Khumho Ecsta MX is slightly more money than the Kumho Ecsta ASX (about $20/tire), probably because of their higher Y versus W designation. Wonder if it is worth it? Anyone have these?

I am suprised how well priced these Khumho's are. I am looking in the spring to get new rubber for the Vette. I had been thinking the Goodyear GS-D3 or Bridgestone Expedia S-01 or Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval. But these Ho's sure are priced right and the feedback sounds good.

All good tires grip well for the kind of warm dry weather touring and day driving I do so I'm really looking for a nice riding quiet tire and of course a decent price.

The MX's (220 UTQG) are a softer compound tire than the ASX's(420 UTQG) and are better suited for more Aggressive Driving and Higher temps,But will wear out allot quicker!,and at cooler temps they'll skate on you and not have as good of handling characteristics as the ASX's!! The ASX's are a harder compound tire but the Handling Characteristics will remain the same through a wider Temperature range!! There a "All Season" Tire, have plenty of channels to move water out from under the tread and exhibit good grip and sure footed in all driving conditions!!:thumb:thumb:thumb

As far as Quite and Smooth, after 45,663 miles I can still hear my Stereo, with No Tire Rumble or Vibration and Excellent Wet and Standing Water Stability!! The Goodyear's Rumbled from day 1 and just got worse from there, and would Hydro-Plane in a Heartbeat!!:thumb:thumb:thumb

PS. I put Firestone Wide Ovals on my 01 Z06 because Kumho didn't make the right size for it,and GoodYear wasn't a option as far as I was concerned!!The Firestone's are alright but noisier and not as smooth as the Kumhos and not as sure footed on wet and standing water!!:thumb:thumb:thumb

Ordered a set today and had them drop shipped to race car shop to install and do the alignment as well and take out the tire pressure sensors.. I was planning on running around 22 lbs in each of the old tires one at a time around town and seeing if ai get a low pressure warning as I know the right front one does work when I bought the car it came on during a test drive and we checked the tires and the right front had about 23 lbs and the other tires ok. I have heard somewhere it is going to be the left front that is bad.. Of course the one that is impossible to get used from what I have heard. The good ones will go one Ebay though anyone on this list will get first shot at them for whatever the reserve is...I plan on keeping that reasonable and basically turn the tire sensors into a repaired sound system...

I've run only Kumhos for a few years now. Even put them on the wife's CRV and will be putting them on my 74 MGB when the resto is finished this summer.
very predictable and they gradually loose traction as you push them in corners. Not like the Goodyears which hold and then suddenly break loose.
They are also the quietest riding tire I have ever used. The difference in the noise level is almost startling.
The only problem is that they flatspot and thump for a few minutes when they are cold but that goes away quickly as they warm up.
For the price you cannot beat them. I got 4 from tirerack.com for less than $500 and that includes shipping.

Be sure that your alignment is good. since these are a really soft rubber they will wear fast if you alignment is not spot on or the inflation is loww

Kuhmo Tires

I work in a dealership. We put on at least 10-12 sets of tires a week, and inevtably I end up getting at least a couple of sets of Kuhmos. We have been getting these for the last five or six years, and I can only think of a couple of times having any problems (usually truck tire balance issues). I like Kuhmos, and for the money thay are hard to beat. We've put them on everything, from luxury to sport and plebian cars and trucks. Wears well, and rides good and quiet, and very reasonable cost.
