L81 Engine pic's.

Hello everyone,

I'm Peter from Holland and have a 81 vette for almost 2 years now.
I'm searching for some pic's of the enginecompartment of a original L81. So i can see what no correct on mine.
Already looked on the L81registry offcourse (and filled in the "paperwork" to become a member ) But also no engine's there?? Or didn't i look far enough...

I still have all the original airstuff on it, and all sensor's are working correct, but it need's to shine offcourse and everything at the correct location!

As i see it now, mine is not far of at all. There are some lose connectors and i don't know where there from but when i have the change i'll post some pic's of it. Here in Holland there also are a few L81's but most of them have taken of the air stuff...

List the number and colors of the wires in each unknown connector, and we may be able to offer some good information.

I'll try to get my hands on a digi camera to shoot some pics.
I can descibe them like i remember it, but the color may be a little off.

The first one, is a single cyan/green or cyan/blue collor wire with a male connector on top. It's hanging in the neighbourhood of the airpomp/aircocompressor.
We thought it's some sort of check connector from the computer but don't know....

The second one, is a air (vacuum) wire it come's through the "net" at the passangerside of the car in the "box" between the engine and the frontwindow (where the wipers are). From the left come two "wire's" one is for the windowcleaner (on the wipers) and there for stayes in the box, the second one goes through the wiperbox to the engine, the wire enters the engine compartment behind the right side of the engine (cilinder no# 7) somewhere under the CCC sensor. It change's the into a bigger rubber hose (for maybe 2 inche's) and stops...

Maybe somebody has a idea? Pic's will follow soon i hope!

The single green wire connector you are describing could easily be the test connector for the mixture control solenoid. It is wired in parallel to the MC solenoid lead to test pulse width/frequency of the MC solenoid while adjusting the carburetor. It's very typical of many GM Rochester E4ME installations.

I'm still hunting up the second one, however.

Little bit late but non the less, here are the pic's of the connector's i don't know where to put them...

The first connector is shown on pic's (page 2) 014, 015 and 016.
It's the green connector that's been located next to the carb and the airpomp (also visible on the pic's), on pic 016 I hold the connector and the screwdriver is pinned under the wire or the connector in the wire tube (where the color of the wire is still good to see. The color of the wire is olive (light green).

The second 'connector' is a rubber tube ( pic 013b) that comes from the pass. side up into the windshield wiper box (through the plastic "grill" on the pass. side). It's not for the wiper cleanersystem (that's the thick wire on the picture, it's the thin wire. It goes through a hole into the enginecompartment. There it's replaced by a thicker rubber wire about 3 inches long and stops... 3 red arrow's are pointing at the wire and also one at the automatic gearbox dipstick and my (non original) alarm.

I hope somebody as some answers for me. If somebody sees something weird in these picture's please let me know by a reply.

Peter - I have that same green connector and it is not 'connected' to any thing just like yours. Like Vader said it's probably a test connector for the mixture control solonoid. I'll have to take a look at that hose on my car.

Mine's not connected either.

The disconnected hose problem is fixed! I looked today at a pace car to see the difference. The hose went back though the firewall and connected to a t-joint for the fresh air system..

So the green connector is for the mixture control solonoid?

I didn't have time to look through the forums Sunday AM before I went home. When I know that my computer is clean I'm goiing to upload these and other pics that got deleted into my Imagestation on new alblums so they will work and won't be taking up space on the CAC.
