L81's TH350C Swapped for a TH200-4R

Very nice! I sure like the shifter plate, I took one from a 82 but that doesn't have the 1st gear "option". Good luck with your first test drive to the cruise fest! :)

Greetings Peter

Alright, the first test drive was a little disappointing. The shifting through gears was too quick, and it felt gutless.

So I parked Gail and let her cool off before messing with the TV cable again. Today it was over 100 Deg F, and the breeze was hot air.

I researched a little in PATC, and they recommend adding between 3/8" - 1/2" (basically, pulling on the TV cable from the idle position). And boy did she wake up; however, I don't want to feel the 1 - 2 or 2 - 3 accumulator releasing and locking the clutch plates and snapping my neck all the time. So just I returned from test drive and tomorrow morning I'll set it half way between the initial and the second adjustment on the TV cable. I think that will be the sweet spot. :beer:thumb:upthumbs

I set the cruise control to 60 MPH, and I timed myself between mile markers, and the spped comes out to 65 MPH. ANd then I remember that when I put on the 140 MPH speedo in the Vette, the guys had adjusted it to eliminate the need for me to get into the tranny and change drive/driven gears. Well, with the calculator recommended drive/driven speedo gears, I can see how that earlier speedometer adjustment is now throwing it out.

Ok folks,

I thought I was out of the woods with the tranny swap, and the tranny leaks, but this morning, I walked to the garage, and I peeked under the Vette, and there was a sizeable leak underneath. Not as bad as the pan leak, but a leak that I could not live with, specially in light of me heading to Cruise Fest this week.

So, Iwent to a cous of shops, and they would not touch the transmission. So, I worked up my courage, and went to a local transmission shop. I explained everything on the tranny to them, and I refuted it when they would suggest how deep they would have to get into the tranny, but I explained to them that if not for the lack of time, I would do it myself. I suspected that the Tq converter lo k up connector was missing a seal.

Sothey told me that they would charge me their regular transmission service, and that cost about $98 dollars. What can I do?! I was out of time and on my way to a cross county gathering so I told them to go ahead, and I am sure that all I got out of the deal was a seal for the electrical connector, and some new fresh transmission fluid, but he'll, at least they got me on the road.

The tranny worked super. With the Extreme H268 cam and the fourth gear, the Vette can move easily because she has plenty of power band. And the gearing is perfect. I calculated a 17.5 MPG on her first leg on my wat east

Reporting from Yoda's den in the planet Amarillo, this is Chubaka saying "aahwwwarrrgh, argh".:L;LOL:rotfl

Nice write-up Gerry! I'm clipping off right at 18 MPG with my '77. Unknown cam, Edelbrock carb, Performer intake and headers. 3.55 gears. (I've since changed gears to 3.08's haven't checked since).

I really like the shift plate mod- I may have to get that kit and do mine!
