Hey all :w My 89 has developed a coolant leak and I was wondering if someone could shed some light on it for me. After I run the car for a couple of minutes, I get a significant amount of 'coolant-steam' from the rear of the engine and when I look underneath, there is coolant streaming out onto the driveway. :(

Where should I look and if I take this somewhere to get fixed - how much pain can I expect?

Thanks for any info.

Intake manifold

The first place I would check would be the rear of the intake manifold near the distributor on the passenger side. Our cars are notorius for developing leaks there. Just by checking you can see the trouble it will be to fix. The whole intake manifold has to come off and a new gasket put on so your guess is as good as mine what that will run you.

Good luck

Hi Pagester,
You could also have a freeze plug rotting out on you at the back side of the block just in front of the trans. If that is it its a real pain.

thanks for the info guys - I appreciate the help

Mine goes into the shop Thursday for a new intake manifold gasket. The estimate was $435.00. Good luck with yours. I am told that this is a normal thing for the L98.

Well My 87 is doing the sane thing now the shocker is the dealer gave me the best price the dealer price was better than the vette shop by $200.00 dollars it's more than likely it's intake gasket :beer Good Luck Lteez

Thanks again, sounds like I have an new intake gasket in my future. I'll post the details after I get it fixed.
