Leaking oil...

The reason I asked is it is my opinion that most Vettes don't get driven enough and that when they sit the seals dry up. Along comes the new owner who thinks "Ha a low milage Vette, great" and begins to drive it like it should, then has leaks to fix.
Mine had 60,000 on it when I bought it. I have replaced almost everthing but the diff (my choice, I wanted Power like the Vettes of the sixties.)
What it did need though were bearings and suspension bushings power steering leaks the sort of stuff that goes bad just sitting. It had sat 4 years in a barn while the previous owner drank beer and wondered how he was going to fix it :L

Stallion,

If you determine that the leak is an engine source, not power steering here's a tid bit that you might not know. In another thread you mentioned that you are using Mobile 1. In todays engines with todays gasket compounds the chance of leaks are small, but do at times occur. In your 78, using synthetic oil, leaks are almost a sure bet. All synthetic oils tend to be smaller molecules and will leak by gaskets that have previously not leaked on dino oil. You may save yourself some bucks and stop some leaks by keeping your 78 on a good grade of dino. Keep it changed every 3000 miles or at least once a year. I have an everyday vehicle that has over 160,000 miles on nothing but dino, doesn't use any oil and doesn't leak. This is the 2nd vehicle that I have run out this far with the same results, the 1st I sold with 195,000 miles on it. Food for thought :w

Ahhhhh!!! I never thought of that. Well, it has been about 3 months since I last changed my oil (the first time using synthetic), so I am due for another change. You suggest I go back to the non-synthetic? I see what you mean. Definitely worth a shot, right?

...or...you can simply look under there and see what's it all about.

Take some shop towels or paper towels, wipe up anything oily, then look again in a day or so.

You probably don't have to buy anything fancy like 'glow in the dark' dye.

...just a lil elbow grease may take care of it.
